Subject: new to DAZ Studio . . .

byheart ( ) posted Wed, 12 February 2020 at 7:13 PM · edited Sat, 14 September 2024 at 7:23 PM

I read one install instructions that said you unzip the packages into the Documents/Daz 3d/Studio/ folder, so that is what I did . . . they aren't showing up in the program. So I went into the Explorer and what a mess I found in that folder . . . were they supposed to go in the Daz 3d/Studio/My Library/ instead?

Been a couple years since I first tried to use DAZ Studio . . . and I am misunderstanding the instructions.

Now I need to set the folders up manually, but in order to do that, I need to know exactly where they go and the proper list of folders. Can anyone help me???

I am suspecting I should only have one People/Characters folder and I have more than 2 . . . I should have stuck to poser, but I found a couple Genesis characters I just had to have!

Help, please.and if anyone lives in southern Illinois . . . that's where I am.

Firstly, you should extract zips to Studio/My Library (you can use any folder you like so long as you point Studio to it - just make sure there's nothing else in that folder to keep things easier). Yes, you should have only one 'people' folder, one 'runtime' folder, one 'props' folder, one 'data' folder, etc

Once there, you should see folders like: My Library/data ; My Library/Runtime ; My Library/People ; etc

These are the default locations. If, like me, you want to use another folder (perhaps on another drive), you need to tell Daz Studio where it is:

In Daz Studio, in the menu bar at the top, go to Edit: Preferences: Content - then click on the button marked 'Content Directory Manager' at the bottom.

Now you will have a window with a tree structure, one of which is 'Daz Studio Formats' - this should point to the My Library (or other) folder that you extracted to.

(There is also a separate directory for Poser formats (this can be the same as the Daz Studio folder - with the poser content under 'Runtime' - you point Studio to the 'My Library' (or other parent folder).

Hope that helps, if not, ask again and I'll try again 😁

Like you, I prefer my folders on another drive when possible but definitely don't want it in a system folder like 'documents', so, you have solved two of my raging problems; now if you could tell me how to stop it from saving the tiny render library files along with my rendered files and how to reverse the interface colors so I could see the text on this little laptop, I'd be completely happy for a while. I don't need the render library anyway! LOL.

Thank you so much! CSGreen

Happen to know what file structure is when newly installed to the documents folder? when I tried to clean up my mess. I somehow lost the DAZ Library folders and every thing was ending up in the My Library

I did start a new thread asking if DAZ Studio can regenerate the folders; but only other way I know of is to find out the beginning structure or will have to uninstall DAZ Studio and start all over, but then I loose the presets and scenes I saved.

I think the only way to get those folders is to reinstall DS. But you don't need them: Just install everything to the same parent folder - but if they are zipped into another folder (e.g. Vendor-Product/data/.... then it's the data and other folders of that level that need to go into the main directory folder. I use 'Content/data' and 'Content/people' etc - in fact I have several directories but that's to keep my own products organised while I'm making them.

You can change the interface colours but I can't remember how offhand - try going into 'customise' if you can find it, or 'theme'
