Hi, I just purchased a fancy new computer and will be buying Poser 11 pro shortly, I was very much into earlier versions of Poser... in particular modeling and rigging custom stuff. I haven't used it in a while though, kinda went over to Carrara and traditional media and stopped interacting on forums much. Anyway, I'm curious about what vertex weight map style rigged figures are included with the installation content. Looking for a replacement for V4, both La Femme and Dawn seem nicely put together. Are either part of the installation? Also are there any toon or non human figures that have come along during my hiatus? Thanks for any replies...

There is LaFemme lite which is included with Poser, and Dawn and Dusk are included with the bonus content you can download after you have purchased poser 11. (You can download poser for a free 21 day trial but don't get access to the bonus content until you buy it.)

This

https://www.renderosity.com/have-you-seen-the-new-poser-pro-11--cms-22318

shows you the bonus content.

Maisie is a new toon type human figure but don't use toons myself so can't really say what's new.

You also get the Hivewire Horse and Gorilla.

Cool. Thanks Nails60. 21 bucks for the... non lite version... of La Femme seems pretty darned reasonable. Seems like there's a lot of new stuff to learn.

There's also several weight mapped versions of older DAZ figures out there. Sasha-16 is a WM figure based around V4, for example. Also, Project Evolution which is an original figure, available elsewhere.

I remember when V4 first came out, as well as Genesis, both initially used the same mesh. Dawn and Dusk as well. Sharing the same base mesh definitely has it's advantages. My criticism of it is due to the fact that in some cases, such as the V4 Male and, IIRC, Genesis 1, the base mesh has to remain pretty much as close to androgynous as possible, since, in those two cases, at least, the males were actually morphs. It's still early in the game for L'Homme, but in my opinion, while they can still use the mesh, they need to get away from the morph ASAP.

@EldritchCellar - Aye, you found me out, and I love the devil. I reckon it would look great in black, used as the detailing on some intricately detailed throne!

BTW, I cannot believe I forgot to mention Dawn in my previous post, who actually, probably rates highest on looking the most seductive right out of the box so to speak. I really like Dawn, and she comes across as the ideal base for mature woman characters.

I think Dawn was already around when you were last here though.

@Clarkie - Still don't like the idea of having a single mesh for both sexes. It's not only stupid from a commercial point of view, it's actually completely pointless. I also hate it when figures have gens separated from the main mesh. This is something I was especially pleased to read; that Shane had addressed it the way it always should have been addressed, by having separate male and female meshes, each with a built-in gen that can be morphed away into a form when not required.

If I were a figure developer, that's the way I would go about it too, it's the perfect solution because it means no more grafting, no more texture misalignment, no more effort other than to spin a dial. It's perfect, and is the way all figures should have handled their gens right from the very start IMHO.

I never understood why this was never so!

EldritchCellar ( ) posted Sat, 22 February 2020 at 8:15 AM

The thing that is most attractive to me about La Femme ( although admittedly I've never cared for the GND body type) is the fact that the base morphs and textures can be used and altered (ala merchant resource) and consequently redistributed. I plan on creating characters as freebies if so. Hopefully there are still some .cr2 experts that hang about the forum as I'm not sure how much the file format and function has changed since last I looked. Are Netherworks script suites updated and viable for Poser 11, or even available anymore? Does Phil C still pop in? Does Nerd 3d answer forum questions? Dimension 3D? And what of Baggins Bill? A lot of questions and a lot to catch up on... I lost a bunch of Poser stuff when my last computer died recently.

I believe the La Femme MRs are for commercial use only, not freebies. I could be wrong, though. Rest assured, I will be corrected if I am. :-)

Nethworks' stuff is still available both here and at Hivewire and updated to work in Poser 11 long ago.

PhilC is not around much anymore, though he does pop in occasionally.

Dimension3D passed away some time ago.

Bagginsbill is here occasionally as well.

Nerd is more likely to answer individual question over in the Poser 11 technical forum than here.

I think that answered all your questions.

Hi Glitterati3D, I thought I read Blackhearted say that the base morphs and textures included with La Femme were redistributable? It's not that big of a deal but having a decent map and rudimentary morphs to alter and springboard from would certainly save a lot of labor. I'd certainly be more inspired to create stuff for her. No interest in commercial endeavors whatsoever...

They ARE redistributable, but I think as commercial products only. I re-read the included ReadMe and it does not make that point clear, so I could be mistaken. However, if you are going to do freebies, I would suggest you ask the powers that be for clarity.

Ah. Well, no biggie if that's the case. It's one aspect of Poser amongst many that's appealing. Ever try importing and applying custom morphs in Carrara, and don't get me started on dependencies and ERC lol?(sarcasm)... It'll be a week or so before I purchase Poser 11... I really miss the preview render styles and workspace. A Poser noob reborn... this time with a windows machine.

Oh, come on. It's not that hard to figure out. Oh, that's right, you're in the UK. Well, twenty to thirty years ago, the internet was a lot more prudish than it is now. Most companies that sold figures like Daz and Poser went the family -friendly route because there was less hassle. Places like Renderotica, though they've been around now for awhile, weren't here thirty years ago.

As an off topic aside, I'm sure I've gotten into heated arguments with at least 3 of the folks here that have replied. Needn't worry about that anymore, that's what FB is for (blech!)... I'll admit I did start to get that old uncomfortable feeling again when I was reading some of the comments aimed at Blackhearted in regard to La Femme in that thread. Stuff like that is what drives away some of Poser's most knowledgeable and talented people. Damn shame, hopefully all that neurosis is a thing of the past...

And, getting back on topic, basically all the content that comes with Poser 11.2 is new, most from the Renderosity store, and works with Poser 11. The highlights, however, are the Hivewire figures (Dawn, Dusk, Luna, the horse and the gorilla), the new Poser 11 flagship figure (La Femme) and Maise (a toon figure) along with lots of high quality content from some of our oldest, favored artists like DM, etc. I think the ad says something like $900.00 worth of commercial quality content from the store.

The old, tired content is available to you through a separate download on the same page as the new stuff.

Oh! And one of the nicest things of all is that there are no longer pro/non-pro versions of the software. Everyone is now on Poser PRO and has all the pro functions available to them. I think that's one of the smartest moves Renderosity made.

On Windows it's treated just like any other folder, so just double-click with the left mouse button to access what's inside it. Whatever is inside can be Un-Zipped by dragging the contents onto the Desktop or onto another location on your drive.

Thanks back at you!

I just did a search after your 'adversarial comment', wanted to see what you were on about. Never heard of that figure before, but just found the official website and downloaded it. Did you have to have V4 installed prior to installing it, or is it a complete figure on its own? I don't want to create diplicates etc, so thought it best to ask since I've not even installed the standard V4 yet. I only just got Poser 10 installed for the first time in years, and will install this next once I'm sure of the proper way to do it. The instructions don't mention whether the standard V4 needs to be installed first.

Cheers! I saw the instructions and will follow them just as soon as I know why my Morphs++ and Muscle Morphs are not showing up on V4. I won't go into that here though, cause I started another thread about the installation probs I'm having. I can hardly believe I've spent around four hours trying to get some content installed, but there ya go!

Looking through my product library at Daz, grabbing all my A3 stuff, and I came across this. The advertising copy is priceless...

BTW, I got Sasha-16 installed, looks nice, but there's a few things not working on mine. Can't remember them all but I know 'Breasts Hang Forward' was one of them not working. Not sure if I did something wrong during the install, or whether it's a bug.
