As far as your render being gray, It's most likely there is something between the camera and the scene. If "remove backfacing polys" is turned is checked, you may not see it if you are outside something like the construct (called ground in the scene) To check that go to render>rendersettings preview tab, on the right under style options si where you find it. Uncheck that and see if something shows up.
We haven't heard what's coming in poser 12. Yes, superfly is cycles (or similar) It does subsurface scattering well. Reflections and lighting work well. There is no micro-polygon displacement so displacement only works if it follows the faces of the mesh. Some people have gotten photoreal or close to it. But it takes work. Most shaders need to be updated to look good in Superfly, and older light sets don't work well. There are free and pay shaders as well as scripts to help out. And if you're at all familiar with blender, there are shaders online you can copy (rebuild in poser) though there are a few nodes that are missing.

That sounds great. Well, I have about 10 days left on my trial of Poser 11, which should give me plenty of time to learn my way around before I'm ready to purchase.
I'll check on that backface option you mention. I notice it renders fine if I just use firefly.. but maybe there's a difference in how surfaces are handled with that renderer.
I'm pretty familiar with Blender, and have worked with Cycles a bit, so it's not completely alien to me. Hopefully that'll give me a leg up on learning how to set things up in Poser.

The current version of poser doesn't support rtx cards or I believe the 1600 series which share the basic turing architecture.
The latest update currently in beta testing does and will be available as a free update scheduled for the end of March, but once you purchase poser you will have access to the beta version

Ahhh that's good to know. Okay, so the support is forthcoming, then, but for now I'll get those gray renders. That's fine. We're practically into March anyway, and I'll need time to learn my way around the program in the meantime.

Hi all,
As the subject says, I'm looking to possibly get Poser in the next week or so (currently checking it out on the trial). I've been using DS, and it's fine, but it has some quirks that kind of bug me. Also, I see that Poser can support G3 and even G8, so it's not like my purchases for DS will go to waste here.
So, on to my question/issue..
Issue first... I'm trying to user Superfly to render using my GPU. Per the note in the render settings, I've disabled Branched Path Tracing, increased Pixel Samples to 20, and increased bucket size to 256 (as recommended on a YT video from Renderosity).
However, when I try to render, it just renders a blank gray square. Shows up the same in the Renders thumbnail list.
I own a NVidia 1660, and will be getting a 2070 Super in the near future, so I'd really like to take advantage of the GPU speed, instead of the CPU. So, if I can get this sorted out, it'd go a long way toward making me confident in buying Poser Pro. I'm sure there's a way. I just couldn't figure it out myself.
And for my question... With Poser's new ownership, is there any kind of a roadmap of how the software will be developed/supported into the future. I've seen that it's using an implementation of Blender's Cycles (which is great... I think that's SuperFly?). How does Poser handle things like subsurface scattering, or other things to help with photo-realism? I'm more into stylized looking art, but being able to do some photorealistic stuff would be nice, too. It's not a deal-breaker if photorealism "isn't there yet". But would like to know if it's in the software's future.
And... I think that's it for now.
