I'm going to recommend a script that works very well and maybe better than the Focus Guide: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2945733. I have seen that behavior before but I did not pursue an explanation nor a solution. Anyway, click on the link in that post and eliminate the extension up to the .py. It works with any camera in your scene.
Okay, I'll check that out.
Though I'm still hoping for an explanation and a solution, too.
With luck, the people tweaking the code currently may know something. Or some wizard out there may have found a solution and/or explanation.
Thanks!

Okay, I found the gizmo you're talking about in FVerbaas post.
Where do I put it to get it to run in Poser 11?

A friend suggested that maybe this happened when I accidentally created a new Dolly camera, deleted it, and the crated a new Rotating camera. So perhaps doing that again...?
But, while that may have caused the problem (not sure), doing it again DIDN'T restore whatever the DOF camera is focused on. :(
A friend also suggested that maybe I could solve the issue by creating a NEW BLANK document and then importing the "damaged" Poser scene into that document.
This did NOT work, either. So, clearly there's something "corrupt" in the existing files -- and no way do I want to re-create that whole set-up!
Nor did Restoring the Camera help. :-(
So, I'm still looking for help -- and hoping that the POSER PROGRAMMING CREW may be able to find and fix this bug in the next iteration.

So, I tried that -- but it kept the skewed Distance guide! Trying the other one in the article that allowed you to pick the character and body part to focus on. We'll see how that renders out.
But I'd still like an actual fix for the usual tool

Sometimes it's possible to accidentally select the FocusDistanceControl prop and move or rotate it. There's a slightly more reliable way to select it and allow its parameters to be checked and reset. In the Python Shell, type these few lines in:
That will actually select the prop and display its parameters:
The only parameter which should not be zero, is the zTran, which should match the focus distance setting of the current camera. (Posing Camera in my case):
Verbosity: Profusely promulgating Graham's number epics of complete and utter verbiage by the metric monkey barrel.

I love the focus guide and use it all the time. But yesterday, something went wrong, and the guide became skewed in my scene. (See Image.)
That is, the guide no longer seems attached to the plane I'm viewing, bur rather is at an angle to it.
I have no idea what caused this -- though it did happen sometime after I added a new camera to my scene -- the 4th new, rotating camera I added.
The problem happens across ALL the cameras, though. It even happens in versions of the scene where I've removed elements and re-saved it.
Though I can't figure out how to DELETE A CAMERA, yet. (In case the # and type of cameras I added is somehow part of the problem.)
I have restarted the program. I have even restarted the computer.
But, so far, no luck.
I have NOT yet installed the Poser update from the last month. (Re-installing the whole thing seems such a drag!) Could that fix it?
Is there some SIMPLE fix that I'm overlooking? ("Oh, you accidentally turned on the 'skew distance guide' function.")
I do not believe the problem persists in new scenes -- but it is in every re-saved version I've tried. (All of which have those 4 extra cameras, in case that's the issue.)
Ideas how to fix it?
Ideas how to delete a camera or two and see if it's the number of the cameras or one of them somehow corrupted the whole scene?
Ideas?
Please help!
Thanks in advance.
