Subject: can Poser 11 run on the same machine with Poser 11.3?

Richardphotos ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 2:19 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 4:29 PM

I want to use my runtimes for 11 since 11.3 does not recognize them . thanks for your answers

EClark1894 ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 2:45 PM · edited Tue, 02 June 2020 at 2:47 PM

WHY does 11.3 not recognize them? That would seem to be the more pressing problem to solve. Do you have other version of Poser that either recognize or not recognize those libraries?

Richardphotos ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 3:08 PM

before 11.3, Poser 11 had no trouble as previous versions even older had no problems . the runtimes for 11.3 are configured differently than previous versions especially for La Femme and Homme

EClark1894 ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 3:17 PM · edited Tue, 02 June 2020 at 3:19 PM

Configured differently in what way? I have 11.3 and it's not having any problem recognizing my libraries. From PP 11 or PP 10. So, I'm suspecting something is different about your computer set up, and not 11.3, unless someone else is having the same problem. And when you say it doesn't "recognize" your libraries, could describe what it does or doesn't do?

ghostman ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 3:32 PM

The only difference now is that the internal runtime that is in the poser program folder isn't showed in the library. The rest of the runtimes you can add in the same way as we always added them.

That's never been the issue with previous versions of Poser going into the Pro builds. But I agree if the content is being placed into the Main Poser runtime, and under Windows, and under Program Files then there are major issues with UAC. I have 11.3 installed and no problems with La Femme and L'Homme, both installed into Poser 11 Content runtime folder.

No problems here. I do have a sorta similar question though, will I be able to run both 11 Pro and 12 on the same machine when the time comes?

This time around it has nothing to do with UAC. It's just how they set it up now. Don't ask me why since i thik it's a bit annoying my self.

I am baffled, and don't understand. 11.3 is an update of 11, not a different poser version. If you don't want to have 11.3, don't install the update?

I also don't get why your runtimes are not 'recognized'. As long as you manually link/point them via the plus sign and installed runtimes correctly, they should be there.

I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to install both versions on the same machine. When version 12 becomes available, it should install into a separate folder like all previous versions. It is not an update but a separate program. Through all my previous Poser versions, they installed separately and didn't override any files. Now, if you are asking whether they can run at the same time on one computer, the answer is yes but why?

Rhia474 ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 6:28 PM

I am running Pro 2014 and Poser 11.3 on the same machine; they are sharing several runtimes peacefully. I see no indication Poser 12 would behave differently from what is known.

Richardphotos ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 6:32 PM

when I tried to show Poser 11.3 where a runtime was it showed this poser.jpg

Richardphotos ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 6:42 PM

I was thinking to keep 11.3 for LaFemme and Homme. use Poser 11 for V4/M4-etc.

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 6:42 PM

So where's the runtime located?

Rhia474 ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 6:52 PM

As hborre said, it's help if you showed a. the location of the runtime you tried to add and b. what folder did you point Poser to?

Page 150-151 of the manual is useful for understanding library locations and how to make sure it is structured correctly.

Also, you don't need to have different Poser versions for different figures. What probably would make more sense is different runtimes for those figures.

Richardphotos ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 7:01 PM

runtime for downloads. I will install Poser 11 again and use it for everything except for Renderosity characters such as LaFemme and Homme.

I really appreciate all the wonderful suggestions and your time

Richardphotos ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 7:02 PM

actually downloads Runtime

EldritchCellar ( ) posted Tue, 02 June 2020 at 7:12 PM · edited Tue, 02 June 2020 at 7:14 PM

Um. You were trying to add an old Downloads runtime to an installation that already contained a Downloads Runtime?

Just merge your old downloads runtime with the new one, no need to add... If I'm understanding correctly? Which I'm probably not lol. Very confusing.

I see what is wrong. you are correct in that I need to merge the old downloads with the current. that explains it entirely. thanks so much for help

Different versions of Poser have had no problem running at the same time on the same machine before. I have had Poser 7, 8, and 9 running at the same time on my Mac, and I have had Poser 11 and Poser 2014 running at the same time on my current Windows PC. Unless something changes, I see no reason why Posers 11 and 12 won't run at the same time on the same machine.

I have never had a problem with have two versions of Poser on the same computer, and viewable in my Library, though I use the External Library, which I view through my browser.

That said, I haven't installed ANY software in Program Files since WinXP, so I haven't run into any UAC issues.

I have P11.3, Poser 2014 Pro and Poser 2012 Pro all installed in the same machine on C: drive and no problem in any of them recognizing the Runtimes. However, my own Runtimes are all located in a completed different HD.. not on C: or under downloads. I'm glad you got help and figured out your problem! :)

Each different, major version of Poser stores its preferences in a different, logically named location. Between different major versions, there are no conflicts. However, the question about running 11.x and 11.3 separately runs into the problem that they will both use exactly the same location for their preferences, and hence one version will overwrite any changes that the other has made, and vice versa. Assuming that you could even run them both at the same time, which I doubt, due to license/lock files, they would be fighting over the preferences again. They cannot be configured separately.

As was said above, P11.x and P12 would be fully expected to live happily on the same system. I can't speculate whether there would be any kind of licence conflict between the two, however, but I assume that users would get a new key for P12.

would this configuration for a desktop be more than suitable for Poser

I would say definitely. My rig is considerably less powerful and runs the latest Poser no problem.

Richardphotos ( ) posted Fri, 05 June 2020 at 2:39 PM

what is actually in " Posersupport.exe"? is it the manual?

EClark1894 ( ) posted Fri, 05 June 2020 at 3:23 PM

No. The Manual is located in the Documentations folder.

what was the last Poser from Smith Micro 14 or 10? I have had Poser since Pro 4 (I skipped Poser 6)up to 14, but I know 11.3 is newer

Rhia474 ( ) posted Sun, 07 June 2020 at 9:48 PM

POser 11 started as a SM product. 11.2 was when Renderosity took over, then 11.3.

Richardphotos ( ) posted Sun, 07 June 2020 at 10:08 PM

thanks for your help. with my main desktop out of order and having trouble with getting my runtimes aligned with 11.3, I am between a rock and a hard place
