Since Daz refuses to allow this question in their forums I'll ask here... Does anyone know if the new Daz Central software show only products from Daz or all the products in the folder?

Daz Central is all DAZ3D software, Tutorials, content and documentation. In order to access the "Service" you would need to log in to your Daz3D account. Check the promo video on the tube

It is basically DIM (Daz Install Manager) updated. It only shows Daz purchased content.

I think it also shows things that go with what you already own. Like a texture set for a clothing or hair product that you may want to add to your collection. It's a marketing tool for DAZ3D, it helps them more than it helps you.

So an app that seeks to make installation and management of content of Daz 3D assets easier for the end user is purely a marketing tool? Judging by the many, many questions here in the Renderosity forums about installation of assets and also the sale here of third party apps to manage asset installation. I would say this free app is something many users would find useful and has some interesting features that may make it an improvement on DIM for some. Honestly I think your comment "it helps them more than it helps you." reveals more about your own personal opinions then it reveals anything about Daz 3D or Daz Central.

I beg to differ...Daz3D is in the business of generating revenue. Always has been. The fact that they come up with an app that seemingly benefits the consumer is coincidental to their primary objective. I didn't say there was anything wrong with that process. I've been a daz studio user since day one, and I still use it on a daily basis. But I was trying to answer the OP, and probably failed in that attempt. So I will try again.. NO, Daz Central will NOT show content other than what is available from their store. I mean, what kind of a business move would that be??

Early adopters have reported broken Daz installations, broken database support, and so on. I'll pass for now. Don't need another buggy application, thanks.

There's nothing sinister about making money, that's what business's do. And in this day and age a successful business will always find new and exciting innovative ways to separate you from your money.

The question has been asked on the Daz forums, and no one has yet replied with their experience of trying to use Daz Central to install third-party content that is set up to work in DIM so no one knows the answer.

Daz company is not responsible for compatibility of 3rd party content with DIM or DC. That is as it should be!

OUCH! A smart marketing move for Daz3D would be to incorporate ANY content a user desired, but that isn't going to happen...

Not without a compressed file industry-style format standardization. Right now, it's a wild west mentality between vendors and free content providers, and I don't think many will go the extra mile to change their workflow.

There is a tool to help you to create DIM files and install any 3D party Poser/DAZ Studio content, or even create your own from Object files you get as freebies or purchase on your own. It's called the Content Package Assist, google it.

i must be one of them then, as it totally destroyed my custom installation. It took me quite a long time getting everything back in order after I UNINSTALLED that poorly designed product. I'm sure it works maybe fine foir those installing product to the default settings, as DAZ Central is made for new users.

I've downloaded Daz central onto my PC - Windows 7, 64 bit. It opened once, crashed and now won't run at all. I've checked compatibility - all ok. I want to use it to install Daz content into Poser as well, which it apparently can do. Anyone else having problems with it?

No problems here, but I am running Windows 10, 64 bits on 2 computers. To be honest, I use DIM to install Poser related content because it is already set-up to my preferences.

DAZ Install Manager. It can be used to install DAZ purchased content into either DS or Poser. In order to install into Poser. you must own the Poser specific files or PS core files that contain the appropriate Library hierarchy for the runtime folder.

I tried to download it from Daz, but it just downloads Daz Central which crashes every time...

LOL... I'm stuck already!!! I've just tried to install Daz Victoria 4 into Poser, but it keeps putting everything in a folder inside Poser, called 'Content'. Nothing goes into my Runtime... I changed the settings for destination to my Poser directory and it then says 'Install failed'...

If DIM does not work can I ask you if you have any other daz figures installed? Do you have a folder at the top of your library titled !DAZ?

I know how to install V4 by hand but theres one tricky part. It depends on your answer to the above question.

I just noticed this and unfortunately, I am stepping out for a meeting shortly. If you can give me a scene cap(s) of your set-up in DIM so I can figure out your problem. I have done this a gazillion times into Poser and never a problem with decompression installs.

Have you used this tool? I am currently looking for an easy tool to use to gather and package the files need for custom characters I have made. I don't plan to sell them, just want to be able to back them up and easily reinstall on a new PC or when I need to do a Daz clean install.

Okay, to answer the OP, Daz Central does show you third party content...if it is already installed, but it won't install it for you. You still need DIM or do it manually to install. I repeat, Daz Central will display third party content after it is already installed.
