It's a simple question really and it's probably been answered already but will my Poser 10 stop working once Adobe stop supporting Flash? I think it runs the library panel and I've recently converted from Mac to PC so I'm a bit in the dark as to how Poser & Flash work together. Anyone know? How does Poser 11 run the libraries and is it worth the upgrade from 10? Thanks.

I would assume you'll still be able to install the Flash and Adobe AIR Windows installers alongside Poser 10, although these may have to be old versions of the installers and not the latest (somewhat) secure versions of these. Flash is extremely insecure even with the latest Adobe support patches. Adobe AIR is less so, so long as you have the latest version. I guess you try it and see. You may have to live with having insecure Flash installed, in which case you would not want to run any Web browser that had native access to it (e.g. Internet Explorer).

The ideal would be either that you get PzDB and use that as your library with Poser 10. Or that you get the upgrade to Poser 11. Or that you wait for Poser 12 and then upgrade from Poser 10 on what may hopefully be a bargain introductory offer. But either of these routes is somewhat costly.

A guy in another thread had a problem running Poser Debut for the same reason. The reality is that Flash is no longer being supported because it's a serious malware threat now, with many backdoors. Even Apple has got rid of it in Safari this year, and no software going forward will have it. Windows 10 defender won't even let you install many of the Flash installers or any app containing Flash now. Adobe has urged everyone to disable Flash, and Google Chrome has Flash addon disabled by default. You have to manually enable it to run Flash-enabled web content or pages.

So, I think your only choice, if you really want to run something with flash is to get yourself an old, outdated computer that is not connected to the internet and using an older OS and just install it there. You can find an old Windows Vista system for next to nothing these days, or even something with Windows 7. Just don't connect it to the internet.

To answer your question about Poser 11, there's an option in Poser 11 to use your browser to display your Library externally. That's how I do it, and I really like it, because it's the full size of my monitor, instead of a tiny panel in the Poser UI.

Hi Kerya. Unfortunately, the External Library option I'm using is new to Poser 11, so as far as I know, it won't work with any earlier version.

It all comes down to cost I'm afraid. As someone who now has to watch the pennies I think the only really sensible option for me is to go for P11. PzDB is over half the price of the P11 upgrade so I may as well choose P11 as the way to go. As for buying an older PC etc, well, I had this discussion with apple over some 32 bit software I had and the latest OS X upgrade. They suggested a similar route. Buy another Mac to run my 32 bit software on. I now run a Windows 10 PC. I've tried Daz Studio and I really couldn't get on with it. There's nothing wrong with it, I'm just a bit long in the tooth I guess to change now. Besides, I really like Poser, it's fun to use. I'm trying to set up a campfire scene where the fire is the only light in it so that it lights up the faces (like in the films) but I'm having a spot of bother getting it to work. Maybe that's another posting! Thanks for all the comments.

The Library docking can be disabled totally by selecting Floating and deselecting Drag-Docking Enabled. With this preference, the panel will never dock anywhere you drag it within the IU.
