Subject: A robust automatic OBJ export script for DAZ Studio

HartyBart ( ) posted Mon, 07 September 2020 at 3:09 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 2:47 PM

Is there a script that will automate the rock-solid automatic OBJ export, of a posed and dressed and hair-ed figure, from DAZ Studio?

By "rock solid" I mainly mean that it has a .MTL file which is internally referenced, such that the materials load back on again without having to wrangle with changing folder hierarchies and search-replace in a text-editor. But it also means also that the mesh is in the most portable/robust format possible.

I've taken a long look for such a script, and there seems to be nothing out there. Equally, there appears to be very little forum guidance on getting an OBJ export with textures that load back on again. FBX or DAE are not options here, for the obvious reasons. Export must be OBJ, and that requirement is also enforced by the intended target software.

Although... I wonder if one of the new suite of free DAZ export scripts might get such a robust OBJ out of DAZ. If so, which one of the half-dozen new scripts is to be preferred?

I did it myself. Search Renderosity freestuff for "Automatic OBJ Exporter". You're welcome.
