Subject: P11 Error in P12

DireLilith ( ) posted Mon, 23 November 2020 at 8:52 PM ยท edited Thu, 31 October 2024 at 3:16 PM

hey there. i'm an old Poser user but very much not a pro. so please be gentle if the things i share look or seem obvious or stupid.

i had poser pro and p11, and just recently upgraded to p12. using windows 10, good enough computer system, plenty of memory, etc. an error i used to get when i started up p11 still shows up in p12. i think it's related to me having once upon a time tried to use Reality or whatever render engine. didn't enjoy it, too big a learning curve for me, was not interested in messing around with textures and stuff. i thought i uninstalled it. i sure don't use it. but i thought installing p12 would remove the errors. so can someone tell me how to get it gone? ss attached. p12ss001.jpg

The popup windows is simply indicating that one of the Python addons can't load, whatever the Poser version given what you are explaining. I suppose that like most of us, you share part of your runtimes collections through both Poser.

If you don't use Reality anymore, then just loop through your runtimes and delete the "reality" folder that is located under "runtime : Python : addons", such as in this example:

alright i had to do some lengthy searching to find all instances of Reality and remove them. that took care of part of the pop up. can anyone tell me what this other part is about and how to stop it?p12ss003.jpg

The problem here is caused by adding a poser runtime to poser 12 which has dson added as an addon. the best cure I have heard about for this, ( I believe from Snarlygribbly ) is to create a new runtime and move your addons into it. Add that runtime to poser 11, but do not add it to poser 12, your dson will continue to work in poser 11 and will not cause errors in poser 12.

Take a look at the folder "Runtime:Python:Addon", first under the folder where the executable is. You may find in this directory a list of sub-directories. Each may (it's not mandatory) call a DLL that is missing.

In each one, you will find a python file name "--init--.py" (be sure that your files explorer is displaying the extensions), and rename in something like "--init--.py.txt", Replace "-" by the underscore, I don't know how to display this character as it's interpreted here ?

Then, restart Poser.

One of those python addons could be the culprit. On my system, the python "addons" list lies only where the executable is.

From what I've read elsewhere, each addon must be correctly registered, using the correct string. This could also be a reason why an existing DLL isn't loaded, and thus missing afterwards.

thanks for the responses <3

i renamed all my addons. there weren't many, i don't use them so there were only the default ones that came with the program. that hasn't solved the problem.

i'm not sure how to do the other thing, where i make a new runtime and put addons into it. i'm confused because i'm not using p11 anymore, just the p12. i have pp2012, pp2010 installed as well. i renamed the python addons in all their myriad of folders. but which one would i make the runtime for or whatever? in order to do what you suggest, structure, which addons from which install do i move to a new runtime? and this new runtime goes into the p11 folder even though i don't use p11 anymore?

fyi, the error remains. wait til i capture the randomly appearing xml issue! i'll share that one here too. what fun!
