Poser 12 F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Oct 22 2:54 pm)
Welcome to the Poser Forums! Need help with these versions, advice on upgrading? Etc...you've arrived at the right place!

Very nice!!! One suggestion is, if you are using SuperFly to render, start experimenting with Area Lights. There are actually some area light presets included with Poser ... check the Poser 12 Content > Poser SuperFly Lights library. Area lights make SuperFly renders POP. 8-) The render I show below uses one of these presets.
I posted a similar version of this render in another thread, but will post it here too at your request 8-) I just changed some stuff up a bit. Dress texture, makeup, hair, and shoes are different. I haven't updated the dress texture to the principled surface node yet, but it looks OK to me as is 8-) LaFemme with head to toe custom morph, been doing several test renders lately.
@Deecey ,this is stunning. The dress is epic. Very Glamorous ?. Is this dress for sale? -Ask for a friend-. LOL LF look here really beautiful.
I see the pre lights and already test them. They are indeed very good. I just want to go trough all the lights and do some test , try out some Photostudio settings to see what fit best for my renders I have in mind.

― Marcus Aurelius,
Couple of test renders from me. Nothing much as I'm HORRIBLE about making art these days, I'm just a guy that likes to make stuff! LOL
Both are for L'Homme. There is Gino for L'Homme, skin face close up render and a quickie render with him poses using one of my Artistic poses from my Mixed Pose and Expressions pack for L'Homme in the store here. Using Snarly's updated EZDome with the free HDR Milkyway for the background!
---Wolff On The Prowl---
lets see what stonemason ARC looks like with all the little light material emanating light from them , used one light on LeFe face, the Arc light materials where cranked to 1000, or 6000. Texture sample set to 45 took over an hour to render that wood have taken older Posers versions 3days to render.
Winter is coming! Figures are both DawnSE, rendered in Poser 12 with Superfly.

I have been using superfly for some time now and used the original firefly skin shaders run through Ezskin3 but with Poser 12 I decided to see how far I could get with using the PhysicalSurface root instead. I guess for many this is a walk in the park but believe me this is a bold move with someone of my knowledge of and skills when it comes to materials.
With the improved speed of render for Poser 12 I also tried a hair style that I would not attempt in Poser 11.
So this is what I finished up with.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
Last week, I read a thread on Hivewire3d, in which Kobaltkween was explaining that for the skin material setup, it was better to use multiple layers. At least that's what I understood. And I've tried to use the PrincipledBsdf in the base layer, and the glossiness in a second layer. So, here is what I obtained. No Light used, just Bagginsbill's EnvSphere. I haven't set anything special for the hair, this is just its original mat setting

Currently, I am modulating the subsurface color chip on the PrincipledBSDF with a CombineRGB node connect to a texture node loaded with a base texture, no makeup, major blemishes, or tattoos. I plug the map into the red channel to represent a subdermal layer. The other remaining 2 channels can be used to tweak the color further for some interesting effects. I find it easier than to color pick the chip. Add a Bright/Contrast node for more variety.

I do something like that. I use two maps. One for the SSS and gloss calculations plugged into the redfilter and one with tattoos and makeup plugged in for the visible texture. It really makes the tattoos look like they are under the skin rather than on top of the skin. With makeup it allows you to see more detail around the eyes instead of just a black mess.

I have to thank you ghostship2 for the idea. I really think that the 2 texture approach is a practical way to get a more realistic skin to render with PBR. There are enough merchant resource packages available that can serve as the base texture for many characters. Find the right one that works for you and you're good to go.
Not my type of character @hborre, but still a well done creation.

Change of pace with this one. I agonized over this image in P11, rendering it for over 1.5 days with grainy results. Very dissatisfied. Now, with shader rework in P12, I got very satisfactory results in a few hours.
Splendid picture

I would really love to see your Poser 12 renders. Any kind. ? Here my Butterfly light test. Light source , 1 Spotlight ,strength 30% Backdrop , dark brown tone. The Construct is blacked out. DOF set at 5.6
Still not 100% I would like to have it, but close enough to post. LF Eyeshader and hairshader by Ghostship2, skin default , glossy reduced. Now you ?
