Subject: Update Car

Yup, I said it, update carrara so it's compatible with the new DAZ content and I'd buy some. I know, but I spent more on DAZ content; when I wasn't so hacked off at DAZ for making my predictions come true, then I spent on carrara. I mean I only have 36 pages of DAZ content.

Hey, everyone needs a Christmas wish.

With the new dedicated export plugins for Maya, Blender, Max,UE4 Unity & Cinema4D ,it is now easier to get new Genesis 8 & content over to those other applications than Cararra.?

It is clear that Daz desperately wants to sell content to more people outside of the core Daz user base but times have changed and there is alot of competition these days from other 3D Character eco-systems,and I dont mean poser. ?

I am surprised that Daz still actually charges money for Carrarra as they have made all of their other Necro-ware free long ago (Bryce, Hexagon)

I had carrara long before DAZ lol Thing is I predicted what DAZ would do with carrara with in 6 months of DAZ buying it. And that was back when DAZ was still DAZ; being run by the founders. Not sure what went on at DAZ at that time but I do know one of the founders left DAZ to start a competing content site; and took a few of the best with him.

And here is why I am stuck with carrara

Maya $1,620 /year autodesk.

3DS max $1,620 /year autodesk

Blender pushes my frustration levels to the max.

UE4/unity are game engines.

C4D monthly pay to play $100, or $1200 a year.

And as far as I'm concerned Studio is a tinker toy app. The only time I really used it was as a prep tool for carrara. I used it a lot to convert old content to fit new figures. For me Studio was just a support app for carrara. Then DAZ broke that comparability and never fixed it before they abandoned carrara. What really got me was DAZ treating carraraests as second class citizens of the DAZ empire. Like our money wasn't green enough for DAZ. The real problem; and this will piss a few people off, was carraraests weren't the bend me over and give it to me again DAZ costumers DAZ wanted.

Yes those are your personal reasons for sticking with Necro-ware that is no longer being developed.

However Daz is trying to grow their user base vertically, and the only way to do that is to convince users of those other actively developed 3D programs/Game engines to come into the Daz Character & content eco system and spend money.?

The problem for Daz is that this is no longer the year 2004 ,but nearly 2021.?

Poser is likely Doomed IMHO?

Reallusion Character creator 3 Pipeline is a one time perpetual license for $200 USD and it can import/convert any genesis 1,2,3,8 Character into a Duplicate Iclone Avatar.

It has better animation tools, an optional Iray plugin. and tools to send Character to Maya MAx Blender, C4D UE4 Unity etc.

and All of those other programs and game engines have Content markets of thier own without having to even look at Kidde pool software like Daz studio or visit the Daz store ?

No amount of updating Cararra would make it competitive with Maya ,Blender etc at this point.?

And updating Carrara just to work with G8 is not cost effective for Daz because the existing Daz user base who really want to use G8 can just use Daz studio and Iray and those who want better tool than Daz studio now has the Daz export plugins for free game engines and Blender.

The 3D software market changed so much in the last decade.

As it stands carrara is still better then Studio. Which is sad considering Studio has 5 more years of development. Oh well, just keep plodding along in the past. The only thing I am actually losing out on is g3-8. And are they really that much of an advancement over G2? Just saving me money.

But hey, watching DAZ crumble would geve me a certain amount of pleasure. I don't hold a grudges, but in DAZ's case I made an exception.
Most all of these are new, with many more coming. I'm trying to finish the ton of scenes I have worked on and never posted. Don't need carrara updated or DAZ for any of it. https://www.renderosity.com/rr/mod/gallery/?uid=246462

If you're dead set against Blender, Maya Indie is less than $300 USD/year.

Carrara is still many ways a great program, but stuck where it is. Blender is just plain excellent these days. Really worth a try, and there is a fork that has buttons for everything. But better to discuss all that in the Blender forum. ;)

One issue is that dozens upon dozens of scenes I have spent hours/days working on in carrara can't be transfer to anything else; well as anything more the an .obj. I have to finish them in carrara. The next step is to find something compatible with my library; mostly in poser format, but Studio as well.

Yes, that is a problem! Daz is pushing their content exporters to the moon. Seems likely your DS content will be transferrable, but extra work. I use a lot of Poser content in DS with no problem. A lot of that should be transferrable, too.
