Hello can I can Poser 11 and Poser 12 at the same time on a PC? I would try to test Poser 12

Yes. I do it on two different machines.

I have only one fast machine. Can I install both versions on the same machine?

Yes. Here's 12 and 11 running at the same time.

Their installations will work like this.

The Appdata/Roaming folders with the preferences of each one:

I can only confirm on Windows though, as I don't use Mac.

Yes. I have both P11 and P12 running on the same machine. I have that configuration on two separate computers.

Aha crosspost. Haven't done that in years.

Yes, just don't install one over the other (use 2 different folders) but that's probably a given. I have 4 versions of poser on my machine. And I've had at least 3 of them running at the same time.

Lots of cross-posts this morning. But the OP has his answer. 😄

Yes, both can coexist while open but don't try to render them at the same time.

randym77 ( ) posted Sat, 06 March 2021 at 7:17 PM

Not only can you run both versions, I highly recommend it. If you want to use your old Python scripts, you need to have Poser 11, since Poser 12 won't run them (yet).

There is a free 21 day trial, so you can see for yourself. One overwriting the other shouldn't be a problem, since Poser 11 installs in a folder called Smith Micro and Poser 12 installs in one called Poser Software.

I've rendered on CUDA GPU in P12 while rendering on CPU in p11 before. Was working alright :D

Didn't try both on GPU or both on CPU at once though - P11 can't render on my GPU, and rendering on CPU when I can use optix in P12 is too much of a waste of time.

Edit: alright yeah maybe don't try it if you're not running on a powerful computer. Mine's a bit of a freak.

Can confirm the same multi-version parallel Poser execution on macOS. I can't speak for simultaneous renders, though. I've never had a supported GPU, so each Poser instance would have to share the CPU. That's bound to be more efficient letting them run sequentially, though.

I don't have GPU rendering. I have tried duel CPU renders. If I set both renders to use half of the cores, it managed. If I forgot that, the computer shut down in protest.
