Greetings all I wonder if anyone can help me with the following ?? I recently upgraded from 98SE to Win2K and whenever I start up PS6, I get exactly 9 of these errors in a row, after OK'inag all og them, PS seems to work fine, except for one or 2 odd things. 1)Every now & then specially when I render Lighting effects, it tells me "Action cannot be completed as a result of a program error." If I restart PS, it usually works. 2)Whenever I scan an image into PS, I cannot save it, PS crashes without warning. Any help would be appreciated Thanx a mill :) Luthor

I dunno how to fix the exact error, and I dunno if you downloaded the update. If you didn't get the 6.1 upadte, get it. It came out pretty soon after 6 came out so maybe there were Win2K problems addressed. I run 98 as well, and will be upgrading to Win2K soon, so hopefully that'll work for ya.

Slynky, thanx for the help there, however I do have the update installed, and I have tried reinstalling Win2k with the Service pack 2, and reinstalling PS6 with the update too, I still have the same prob. :( Does anyone perhaps know if there is any other forums/msg boards where I might be able to get some help ??? Thanx again ! Luthor :)

I run PS 6.1 on Win 2k Pro , and never have had any problems ..... how much ram you using , and what kind of Vid card ? when you UNinstalled PS 6 , did you also clean any remnants out of the registry , thereby forcing a "clean" REinstall? also , when you REinstalled Win 2k , did you do this as a clean install , or as another upgrade ? a good place to talk to some PS guru`s would be http://www.OzoneAsylum.com "Doc Ozones" forum, maybe they can help you out a little more .

Thanx for the reply there Cozmic ! I did indeed do a clean install from a blank HDD. I am running on a PIII 550MHz with 416Mb RAM, and a 32Mb Geforce2 MX card. I have all the latest drivers for all my hardware. I'll try the Ozone as well then. Thanx again man !! Luthor :)

Luthor, What plugins are you running? I am also running Photoshop 6.1 in WIN2000 with no problems. Have all the latest upgrades from Microsoft but this, in general should not be a problem. Back to my original question, one of your plugins might not be WIN2000 compatible. That is where I would start to examine.... Picky

Thanx a lot there Picky. I do have a span of plugins yeah, from Eye Candy4000 to SuperBladePro, KPT 3, 5 & 6 and Convolver, and Xenofex & a good few more... I'll have to try eliminate them 1 by 1. Gonna take a while.. hehe Thanx for the tip though, I'll b sure to give it a shot. Luthor :)

Cozmic ( ) posted Thu, 25 October 2001 at 6:22 PM

Luthor , all those plugs should be fine , as I run all of those plus some more ........ on a side note , from the looks of the error youve gotten , one work around might be to download and reinstall the msvcrt10.dll file ....sonce thats what seems to be affected. Have you done a system file check ? go to run/sfc.exe , thats Win 2ks system file checker , let it check your files , if it finds one thats been replaced or corrupted itll prompt you for your install cd and will reload the file. if you need a link to the dll , just holler and I`ll post one for you ........

Luthor ( ) posted Fri, 26 October 2001 at 5:46 AM

Ta,Cozmic ! Holler Holler Holler !!!! LOL Yup, I thought of that one too,(sfc.exe) I did replace the dll with the original one, but unfortunately that didn't do it for me... I'm thinking it might be hardware ? OK, so far I have tried everything you kind folks suggested with no luck, I'll probably just learn to live with it, coz I am now fed up with windows, and seriously addicted to caffeine, nicotine, and I'm thinking of something stronger... LOL Fanx a 10e+6 to all u luvly peeples !! Luthor :)

I'm curious. Did you do a search and see if there is more than one instance of msvcrt10.dll?! You may have more than one, and they might be causing problems. WE obviously have a few people who also use the same version of PhotoShop and Windows 2000. It might be a good idea to see what details separate you from the others. For instance, you can compare hardware configuration. Sometimes you find that a particular video card is related to problems, etc. And even compare things that may not seem related, such as what version of MS Internet Explorer do you use? Just to clarify here: You installed Windows 2000 on a blank, formtted hard drive, rather than upgrading over what was already there? Do you use NTFS for your file system, or something else? All these questions might help lead to a solution. ]

The easiest way to solve this problem is to buy a Mac G4 i guess... :D Seriosly, it sounds really strange with all those errors. I'm running Win2k Prof. SP2 and PS6 (not updated) and it works perfect. Although, i had that problem with the Lightning Effects a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, i can't remember what OS i was running back then or what I did to solve it...

Ok guys ! Thanx a million for all the help & tips. :) I found the problem... it was a set of 9 freeware plugins I got off the Computer Arts magazine's cover CD... I think they might have been only for the mac, but as soon as I removed them, everything was 100%. And as for buyng a G4 ?? Not on my salary.. hehehe... Thanx guyz ! Luthor :)
