If you don't have them, please get some universal power supplies to protect your computers against brownouts and power drops. Surge protectors are not enough. Power drops are a great way to wreck your computers. That's actually an upside of laptops. The built-in battery provides some protection against power drops, maybe even better than a UPS.
Daz doesn't care about Carrara. Even if they did, I doubt they could fix it. I'm not even sure they can keep DS going or manage their own store. It looks pretty bad right now, with new bundles full of old products and so forth. I'm hoping they can pull it together.
I have a UPS but it's getting old and sometimes fails

I think you hit the nail on the head, and I too think They don't know how to fix it. It would probably take a complete re-write, to bring it up to date, and I don't think they have anyone that speaks Carrara, or Hexagon for that matter. I'm sure they care though, otherwise why hold on to a piece to software that isn't generating income. I feel that Daz's ship is sinking. They used to dominate the "Character making engine" which was what made them a hot commodity, but that is changing fast. There is more and more competition, which are as good as the Genesis line, Reallusion with Character Creator, Unreal now has a Figure Generation and I'm sure there are others. And of course there is Poser, the grand-daddy of them all. As far as the rest of the stuff Daz sells, well there is a growing source for all kinds of content, that works in all kinds of software, including Carrara, but I don't hear of anyone knocking themselves out in creating .dufs.
i'se trying to delete the face rigging bones from a conforming hair.
so far, i only seeing the ds joint editor, deletes 1 bone at a time.
is there a way either ds or carrara, to delete the whole face rigging simple and quick without losing the movement morphs, which are all in the 'head' body part?

i'm loading a g8m hair on the g8m preset, is telling me is unsupported. the list shows g3m, g8f, but no g8m
then it spends about 5 minutes projecting morphs

Although they loathe to admit it, I suspect that Daz agreed to some very restrictive licensing terms when they bought Bryce ,Carrara and even mimic basic.
They used to market position themselves as providers of a suite software solutions taking over the mantle of Metacreations.
Then they got a very positive article in 3D world magazine about the original Genesis 1 and decided that focusing on that figure line was the way forward ?
They admitted that mimic basic is still 32 bit due to "licensing terms"? and I suspect they cannot alter the core code of carrara & bryce beyond a certain limit as well hence the apps languishing as vestigial necro-ware.
figured how to fix ghe g8f toe bug from the ds gui.
still dunno how to make it a legal preset or fix it inside carrara.

I wish we could animate the Font types for text
trying to figure out a way to convert hair and shoes to props without losing the ovement morphs. shoes only need to bend at the row of toes. long hair bend at the neck and never turn the parent figure upside down lol

so many issues that come up in Carrara lately seem to rely on using DAZ studio to fix them which IMO is not optimal, not everyone wants to use DAZ studio and not every patch job done that way works as well as it should, often introducing additional problems with the fix.
An example today was Blondie's Poser format Rockfish. I am unable to examine the cr2 today as having my own unrelated issues with hardware and my electrical wiring of my house, but I did discover a Poser pz3 scene file of it works before using my second computer crashed my other one due to a power brownout!
I posted this on the DAZ forum where it was discussed but of course the moderation team has to approve my post and frankly I am as sick of that as I am of DAZ not fixing stuff in Carrara,
DAZ does not deserve to own Carrara. ?
