If you're on Windows 7 and running Poser 12 with no issues please reply to this thread.

Great, can you please verify for me if you can log into your Renderosity account from your Poser 12 library?

I can log in the posersoftware.com account but not the renderosity.com account for some reason and have been told it's a Windows 7 issue.

I see, so it does seem to be a Windows 7 issue. That's too bad, I was so looking forward to the new Python scripts for P12.

patlane ( ) posted Thu, 10 June 2021 at 11:44 PM

I also ran on Windows 7 Pro with the same problems right up until recently. It seems that when Microsnot dropped their support for Win 7 the poser tech folk washed their hands of it as well. My support help went to a deathly silence when they realised I was courting Win 7 Pro. I had to upgrade to Microplop version 10 for the techies to start talking to me again.

And now, i have a third tab entitled 'PoserSoftware'?? and guess what.. I can't get in??

Marvellous :)

Do you have an account on Posersoftware.com? If not you'll need to make one to log in there. Your renderosity account info won't work there, or at least mine didn't I had to register a new account.

Consider me insane if you wish, but is your reality any better?

That worked for the Posersoftware login! I thought my 'posersoftwarebeta.slack' transferred over but it did not; had to create a new account and not that logs in fine. However, my Renderosity still does NOT login through Poser.....??

Well, it appears that if we are on Windows 7 then the future of Python 3 scripts purchased through Renderosity is at an end. Ken confirmed that in order to my his scripts work you MUST log into Renderosity through the P12 Library Menu. The script itself pops up a login window but refuses my user/password - if MUST be though the Library Menu then Ken says the script will not ask again.....

Waiting now to see if anyone will answer my second message or if I must ask for a refund and not be able to use future Python 3 scripts......

Hello, and thanks bwldrd. I registered and logged in. Apparently I haven't purchased anything.

So, back to the win 7 Pro conundrums. I started a link about the same problems on Christmas Eve, 2020. Not sure if it actually started the ball rolling, but there were many win 7 Pro users having the same issues back then as well. The outcome was not really a fix, but more of a bodge to open up a download page for the included content for us Win 7 users. The general synopsis was 'No Windows 10, No backstage pass.

Here is the thread.

It is no longer just "no backstage pass" as now you can not even access any Script purchases if you are on Windows 7. Will this be expanded to other purchases as well?

Right now if you purchase a Python 3 Script, the Only way to activate it is to log onto Renderosity THROUGH P12's Library menu, which you can not do from Win7 platform due to a security breach it would cause. Even thou running the script opens a logon window, your username and password will Not work if P12 itself is not logged into the Renderosity Market.

Went through all Ken1171_Designs products and none say that they need a online activation, also it is not mentioned in the read me files. It is stating that it can be either installed from a ZIP archive, or from the Poser's built-in store. From the actual Information of the product there is nothing mentioned that it needs to have a built-in-store connection to work either a online activation!

this sure is a little misleading for customers that buy in good faith. This could cause that a customer will buy once from that vendor and never again.

ChromeStar ( ) posted Mon, 14 June 2021 at 10:30 PM

Presumably the issue with scripts is that without any kind of online activation or automatic installation, they are really trivial to copy. That removes a lot of incentive to develop and sell them. Ken1171 discussed that in his interview,

Those issues exist to an extent with content, but content shows up right in your render. The use of scripts does not. And there's also a difference between some python script that is just a small text file vs content that is many times larger and spread across multiple files.

It would be ideal if the script installation worked in Windows 7. But considering Windows 7 hit end of life a year and a half ago, and Windows 10 came out six years ago, you're lucky Windows 7 works for anything. Personally, I wouldn't connect a Windows 7 computer to the internet at all, that's just not safe. And it's well documented that you can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free so.....

!Firefly! ( ) posted Tue, 15 June 2021 at 4:58 AM

It is ok if the creator makes the decisions to protect he's creations, no doubt. but giving false Information about the product to the customer is a no no no. the least would be making the customer aware that it needs to be connected to the Internet.

In here creators do not seem having the need to Inform customers correctly, all others do, or is it that they might sell less if they do? again, it is a no no no. If I order apples and get potato's I sure am not a happy camper.

Insisting to be right if you did wrong is a "no" just to maintain it this way. just Imagine if all would start selling there products this way, then you sure would get potato's instead of apples.

!Firefly! ( ) posted Tue, 15 June 2021 at 5:15 AM

ooooooops ... just found the same issue with Blacksmith3D products , there it is also not mentioned that it needs constant internet access, again a no no no. why are you doing this? :( :( :(

Hey everyone,

We are using an API that is specific to Windows 10. We believe the issue here has to do with the way SSL is handled in Windows 10 vs Windows 7. As you may be aware, TLS 1.2 is the new SSL standard. By default, this is not enabled on Windows 7 but my understanding is that it can be. This may be something to experiment with to see if you can get the login to work. We have not experimented with it since Windows 7 is EOL. Let us know if this works if you try it.

To be clear, this should only impact your ability to login to your purchase history through Poser 12. You can still download your purchases from your purchase history here on the site and manually install them into Poser 12 running on Windows 7.

Downloading manual for all products works just fine - the problem I have is Activating Python 3 Scripts purchased in the store.

  1. A login window from the script does open up - but log in fails and the script shuts down
  2. I asked Ken1171 (it was his script I purchased) and he says "You MUST log in through P12's Library Menu to Renderosity, once activated the script will no longer ask you to log in"

Would not be bad if the Script's window would accept the login, I would not even mind if I had to log in each time I use the script, but according to Ken1171 that (at least at this time) is not an option so any Python 3 Scripts purchased here will Not be able to be used on a Windows 7 platform I read through the Readme, the product's description in the store and the product's manual once purchased, downloaded, and installed and this is NOT mentioned anywhere....I wrote Renderosity twice as well and still no reply from anyone - Ken1171 was the only one to respond to me.

I will look into TLS 1.2 but at this time I am not prepared to upgrade Windows

igohigh ( ) posted Tue, 15 June 2021 at 5:48 PM

I just tried Microsoft's method to enable TLS 1.2 (and TLS 1.1) using both their "Easy Method" and manually. Unless I am missing something, it did not work. Still can not log into the Market nor get Ken1171's Python 3 script to activate:

Think we solved the issue with Win7 Poser users being unable to login to Renderosity purchases with some changes to the Renderosity site SSL config.

Please give it another try & let us know.

Ken1171_Designs ( ) posted Wed, 16 June 2021 at 2:13 PM

Thanks, Tim! I hope this works out for Windows 7 users. I just wanted to clarify one thing. If you are already logged into the Poser library embedded store, the Python 3 scripts will not ask you to login again. It is not that you must login through the library embedded store, but I find that more convenient than being asked to login when running the scripts for the first time. Once you successfully login either ways, Poser 12 will remember your credentials and should not ask again.

Also, to clarify a bit of confusion related to logging in to the Poser library -> Purchases Tab -> Renderosity section, the user name should not include the entire email address like it is in the Rendo web site. It's just the part before "@". A number of people tried logging in using the entire email address as the user name in the embedded store, but that won't work. The password is the same, but the user name is just the user part of the email address.

Hope this helps! ^___^

@ Ken1171_Designs

does this now mean that in order to make the Python work you need to be online ? also after the first registration ?

this is very confusing! I do not understand why you are not mentioning it on the product page so that customers get aware that the script depends on a Internet connection, it would solve allot of questions about the product line and customers would be aware of what they are buying.

the ~Comforting Lies~ that you posted was very interesting. It would be nice if some could stay in the line of "Unpleasant Truths"

your Interview was very hard to find, it gives the basic information about the security system, personally I think that the activation information should e placed on the product page.

I just hope that this is not the beginning of a poser era where most models only will runn while being online :( :( :(

igohigh ( ) posted Wed, 16 June 2021 at 6:44 PM

Tim & Ken1171_Designs;

It Works! However, Ken1171_Designs, it would NOT accept the "first part of my e-mail before the @". That failed but when I used the User Name that I am have been registered here at Renderosity for (oh about 10-15 years now) it let me in. I can now see all my purchases AND you wonderful script did not make me log in.

To answer !Firefly!; have not yet tried offline. As per Ken, once you have logged in the initial time the program, and Script, should retain your credentials and ask you each time....yet to test it out.

Thanks Folks!!

Ken1171_Designs ( ) posted Thu, 17 June 2021 at 12:11 AM

@igohigh Thanks for the feedback! I have logged in to the Poser 12 embedded store many months ago, and it has never asked again, so it has been a while. There was a customer who had issues login in because her user name was her email address - I guess some people do that. In that case, they only need to enter the part before "@" on the embedded store. For everybody else, it's your user name as usual.

If you are already logged in into the embedded store at Purchases Tab > Renderosity, it won't ask you again. If you are not, the scripts may ask you to login when first ran. After this point, they will not ask again, since Poser 12 remembers your credentials, and will automatically use them when necessary. It only needs a connection when the scripts are launched. Once the purchase has been verified the first time, I believe you may still use the scripts offline, and it will ask you to login. After login in while being offline, I believe Poser 12 will let you use the scripts without quitting.

Note that I say "I believe" because this is managed by Rendo, and I don't know how it works. But there were times when I was offline and the scripts have worked. It just asks me to login (when I am offline), and proceeds normally after that. In other words, it will verify the purchase in every launch, but will not keep you from using the scripts if you are offline after the first time. I just did a quick test here, disconnecting the internet, and running a script. It asks me to login, and once I do, it lets me use the script as usual. Mind you - this is all new, even to me. Give it a try and see what happens. Let me know if you get the same results as I did in my test.

@@ This actually clearly means that certain purchases like Pythons atm. require to be online and connected to renderosity in order to work! ooooha

once you log out or have a connection issue with your provider it might stop working?! I do not like this at all, no no, In first hand not telling when purchasing, in second hand it seems that the upgrading target of poser 12 +++ is leading to absolute control, a must be connected and logged in to the renderosity store, a really baaaad idea! Poser is loosing more and more passionate users, and now this. @-@

@ @ okkky, I could understand so far !! but how can one log in at renderosity if he is offline ( this is all new ) normally you need to be online to log into the renderosity store ?! resulting again that these scripts ( may be futuristic assets ) will only work online and logged in. I might seem stupid but not that stupid.

if I go offline I am automatically NOT logged in, this would be normal, so renderosity must be an exception :) :) :)

ChromeStar ( ) posted Thu, 17 June 2021 at 3:15 PM

I would assume that since it has already validated your ownership of the script once, that it is just checking that you are entering the same credentials as you did when you were online.

Why is it necessary to even enter those credentials? Because presumably if you did not have to do so, you could copy those files to another computer and bypass the activation. In this case, even if you could, you wouldn't give those files to someone else knowing they would need to get your credentials.

It's not a perfect solution for anyone -- personally I'd rather Poser not call home at all -- but I understand where they are coming from.

!Firefly! ( ) posted Thu, 17 June 2021 at 4:23 PM

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

Rant !! :(

Well who cares about there paranoid fort nox security system, they can do whatever they wish, they can make all the stuff they sell online dependent if they want to, it is there affair they are the Poser owners now, no doubt. They can even pretend that they do it to protect you, they can also make a lease, they can build a online Poser! the thing is that they have to write it down, that they have the moral obligation towards the customers to inform them on the product page, that it depends on a active connection to the renderosity store in order to work.

It seems that they try in any possible way and any cost to hide it, telling the untruth to customers, giving a bad aftertaste that they might have something else to hide ! It would be soooooo simple !!!! but noooo rather throw out lies and another lie to cover the first and on and on it goes.

Again: Why is it not mentioned that it needs a online connection in order to work in the product, on the product page ? a simple question for a simple answer.
