New Poser Users Help F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 26 4:11 pm)
New to Poser? Ask questions here for expert help!
very little content. I can't find pictures of what content they have anywhere. What content does Poser 12 contain? I'd like to at least see it before I buy it.
Yes, lack of a PDF preview brochure for the 5Gb of free content is a drawback. It would be a big booster if they could produce such a thing and have it look good (hide Barney and his ilk, maybe). But there's a lot of good stuff in there. Including La Femme and Robokitty.
It also had a link on the page to see extra Downloadable content you get with it and it went to a 404.
Not sure which link you are clicking. But you need to enter your serial number to get the extras. Presumably those who are still running the free trial don't get the Extras until they buy.
Poser 12 is still Early Access though. One low-risk way to do it at low cost would be to get the $80 Poser 11 licence from Neowin, install Poser 11, get the free content bundle that way. As far as I know the 5Gb free bundles are basically the same.
lose Internet and Poser tries to check you your software
Poser 11 and 12 will occasionally 'ping' the licence server to check you are using a valid serial. So you do need to run it while being online, or it may refuse to start up. Being offline will not wipe your licence though, obviously.
Genesis figures may not be able to be brought in anymore.
So far as I know the new Renderosity version of Poser 11 can run the DSON importer for Genesis 1 and 2 in all versions, or so I'm told. But the installer for DSON is no longer on the Daz store. You would need to ask around about that.

A product page of all the included content for a purchased P12 license has been requested and will be put up at some time soon.
As far as DAZ is concerned, the DSON Importer is dead, no longer available at their store. This makes it literally impossible to install Genesis 2 and higher into Poser. There are instructions for getting Genesis into Poser but that seems to have disappeared also.
You can check out this list for the included content.
Poser isn't a subscription. It does check your serial number so you do need to connect to the internet once in a while. I think it's every three weeks, but could be wrong. If you have unreliable internet or anticipate connection issues, you can contact support and see if they'll work with you.
Render times can be high depending on your scene, which render engine you use, your render settings, and if you use GPU or CPU renders. It sounds like you're in the same boat as me and don't have much choice on GPU vs. CPU. I usually render overnight.
With DSON not being available anymore, you may have trouble using Genesis content. I do believe some have had success exporting from Daz Studio as an FBX and importing that into Poser.

I use Poser 13 and win 10
Ok, I went to NeoWin and got Poser 11 pro 11.3. Also got 10% off for being new so got it for $72. Yay! Thanks for that. Got my downloads, installed the program and tried to install content. It don't work! I'm not sure where it's going but I can't find it. I used the default install path. It didn't work. So I looked for some files in a diff area based on opening the downloads folder in the content areas location (I right clicked and opened in Explorer). It didn't work. I found some files I knew were there based on right click and open in explorer also.. they were in program files.. So I went in to the appropriate location, copied the path, and tried again... it didn't work. Any Ideas?

Hi All, I used Poser for years like 15 yrs ago. I still have my poser 5 disk. Also used Bryce, Vue, and C4D. My daughter recently started doing 3d stuff and is using DS. So I thought I'd give it another shot (I tried it when it first came out and didn't do much). Not only do they make things extra freaking complicated period. They often installed their products in strange places and I couldn't find them. These were many old products I purchased from them years ago for Poser like V3 and tons of stuff for her among many more. It also tried to kill my computer MORE THAN ONCE during renders. As well as lagging and jumping while attempting to work. Many many issues. I was really upset so I thought maybe I'll upgrade my graphics card. Well they are Way too expensive atm so I couldn't. I really thought I was SOL. Well then I thought I'd try poser 12 trial to see if it would do better. I manually downloaded some of my files from 2005 and very simply dropped them in Poser. I still don't know where some of my stuff in DS is after a month! I put V3, a dress, a texture set for it, a texture set for her and some heels in there. Boom rendered fast! But it wasn't the greatest. I had to go watch videos about settings but it was ok. It is using my 8 core gpu instead of the tiny 730gt graphics card. I still want a new one but not paying 300+ for a not that high card (a 1050) apparently that's the most my board can handle according to IBuyPower. I play WOW w/ it w/ no issues. Anyway, a few questions: The trial version has 2 people.. and a few other items that I don't even like much and very little content. I can't find pictures of what content they have anywhere. I clicked on poser 11 to see hopefully it showed nothing. It also had a link on the page to see extra Downloadable content you get with it and it went to a 404. 1.So what content does Poser 12 contain? I'd like to at least see it before I buy it. Some folks are saying they'll never have Poser 12 because if they lose internet and Poser tries to check you.. your software will cease to work. Is that true? It's not a subscription software so this makes no sense. I'd hate to think that if I lost internet I wouldn't be able to use a program I paid for. I will never ever have a new version of Photoshop BTW.
