It's been so hot for so long, haven't done much composition, and no rendering.  Went through  2 weeks with our gas shut off looking for, and repairing a leak. Fortunately, it was 90plus (F) most of the time. Didn't need the heater, but sure missed hot water.  The covid virus has impacted plumbing. The knowledgeable plumbers are in high demand because the work force has shrunk. Got to make appointments! Well, it's all done, but I am exhausted. I think I'll do some graphics, and actually fall asleep with my hand on the mouse. If I keep it simple, rendering still makes the computer hot, and at this point no budget in immediate future to replace if it comes to that. So that is my sad story. 

I have issues with my computer overheating too at times. Yes, the room temperature can cause problems. There's also the need to open it up and clean the fans with compressed air. Also, make sure the computer isn't sitting on carpet or fabric. Finally, I had to set my processor maximum state to 80% and replace my hard drive. software like speccy can help you see what parts are overheating so you know where to focus.

Aye, cleaning out the machine is a good idea.  I do mine - when I remember - fairly regularly.  Even though it's on a shelf, it still gets full of dust and cat hair.  Not only do I clean the fans, I get a toothpick into the processor heatsink and give that a good going over.

Another thing to consider is, if things are getting too warm even then, stick a desk fan near it.  Obviously, not right on top, since the EMI from the motor won't do your machine a deal of good.  :D

Phew! I tried to respond from the email link but the reply box was missing. Until it dawned on me, log in. Doy! Yes, good suggestions about keeping the fans clean. I keep my laptop on a special screened base that is designed to cool the bottom of the laptop, I also need the fan to to direct its warmish air at me in order to function properly... I will try the compressed air suggestion. Thank you!
