Subject: Question on Saving a Shader Definition Asset

dlm4001 ( ) posted Tue, 05 October 2021 at 8:09 PM · edited Sat, 28 December 2024 at 1:21 AM

I am trying to match two pieces of clothing. In the past I have successfully saved the shader of the item I wanted to match to, as a support Asset -> Shader Preset. Then I applied it to the second Item and tweaked as required. I have an item that is giving me an error  "You must select one object in the scene and one surface of that object can be saved as a shader definition asset.  The "Iray Uber" shader can not be saved as a Shader Definition Asset. "

I do have the object and one surface selected, so obviously, the item I am trying to match to was created with the Iray Uber Shader.   Any ideas on how I can copy this shader to the surface on another object?

FYI: The two articles of clothing are from the same artist.  I have purchased both, and this is for personal art only. (respect the IP :)  Any help is appreciated.

Solved.  I recreated the shader by hand and applied to the 2nd piece of clothing.

Just apply the Iray Uber shader then you can do a simple cut and paste.

A shader preset should be enough, no need for ana sset unless you are actually trying to create a new shader (rather than settings for an existing shader) that will be used across multiple scenes.
