A kind of late response to one of our greatest and dearly missed assets, MistyLaraCarrara, Yes it can be done.Any thoughts on how to merge geografts inside carrara?
thinking mainly of the man pro bits. i don't the lady geograft is rigged, i actually never loaded the lady bits lol
somehow make the mesh and geograft merge into 1 mesh a geograft hole can cross body parts , it's not bone or vertex group specific
but how?
and Octane too I see, my cheat using a hidden conformer that works in Carrara native leaves holes in Octane
I merge the graft to the main figure using the Geometry editor in Daz Studio, re-assign the added geometry to the hip of Jonathan. then save as figure/prop asset. Also need to convert the gens to blended weight prior to the merge. The only kicker is that it only works as intended using DS4.10.xx. Clothing conforms, hair fits, poses work, some pose controls don't work (3DU Pose Architect, some do some don't). FBM's need to be applied prior to merge, and basically any morph that moves the area that the graft is attached to. Just dial in a value, any value except 0. I generally select the Actor in the parameter tab and set every dial to anything but 0. Anyways, once saved in my own directory, I clear the scene and load up my saved figure, all the dials are the way they were set, zero the figure and save again as a character preset, I save it using the same name and the original save gets over-written. Load in Carrara and Voila. The become stand alone figures, as in they won't accept other character morphs after the fact, the idea is that you convert the character that you want, add the morphs you need, and get rid of the morphs you don't need, just to keep the file size down. But as I says, got to use DS4.10. I've tried ever other version since 4.10 without success, so now I just run DS4.10 as a plug for Carrara. G8.1 preset by Misty was a challenge, but I think I got it to work, I'll work on a proper working document to outline the steps with screenshots. And yea I love OR4C. I never use Carrara without it.
ah you turn it into a conformer like clothes, gotcha
Not really sure what you mean by conformer. To me it seems like the graft is merged into the main geometry of the G3 mesh. The geometry is welded. There are no hidden verts in the actual geometry of the new G3F or G3M mesh. I don't edit the Graft in say DsonEdit and remove the graft portion of the file. the only thing I do is convert the rigging to Blended which is needed for it to bend properly. The Geometry editor takes two separate objects and makes one. Am I making sense? There is no conforming or "Fit to" operation that needs to be done after the two items are merged.
I've also played around with some success by merging fiber brows and other figure hair with G3F. The hair or brows need to be converted to Blended weight, for G3 and up, and the geometry needs to be reassigned to the corresponding mesh of the figure it was merged to, but it does work. I haven't tried it with clothing but I'm pretty confidant that that would work too.
I have 4.7 on one of my computers so will have to look into it
I didn't have 4.7 installed, so I dug out an older laptop and installed it. Works for me, after converting the lashes and fiber brows to blended weight, and then saving both (individually) as a scene subset, loading them in Daz and save again as a character preset overwriting the subset. Loaded both onto Veronica in Carrara, there you go. The lashes for some reason are only visible at rendertime using the Carrara native render. The brows look like crap but I dial the alpha to 50% or so and the look somewhat presentable. I also tried a Merged version, the brows worked but the lashes didn't. No screen grabs, sorry.
set ray epsilon all the way to the left
Genesis 8.1 is proving to be a bit more difficult, but I'm working on it, using Misty's Gemini and what's his name presets for Genesis 8.1. I'm using the default G8F 8.1 package as well as the Head Morph, Body Morph, and Expression sets. this is what she looks like in the latest beta of DS4.16
Just as you would expect
This is how she looks in Carrara 8.5 Beta with the Root level selected, the only thing you get are the Head Pose Controls and nothing for the Body.
and this is the same file with the Actor selected, and again, nothing but the head morphs, which is a bummer.
I'm going to start a new thread Genesis 8.1 in Carrara outlining the steps I take in getting Misty's presets to work in Carrara.
A bit of an update to my procedure when merging Fiber Brows and Lashes (by Colm Jackson). I'm also using some products by Lyoness, like the Every Girl Kit for G38F, and a couple of others. The point is, these kits have full body morphs, and full head morphs, so when you merge things like the lashes and brows, you want them to follow the head morphs, and the brow and eye morphs. So, prior to the Merge process, you will need to set a value for all the dials that affect the brows and the eyes in order for those dials to work in Carrara. I used this workflow on Genesis 8 Female via the preset by Misty.
