Here are the two characters I've created so far. There are no props and Daren does not have his armor yet. I used one distant light to illuminate the character from the front with minimal shadow. Both were challenging for different reasons. Daren due to his dark complexion and scar. I may yet modify the texture maps rather than use diffuse, specular, specular 2, subsurface, etc. to modify the skin color. Barry was challenging due to his hair. I'm using Genesis 2 because I do not have the funds to be the necessary morphs for Genesis 8. The hair still isn't great, but it looks much better than it did when first applied. The clothing was also a challenge because some pieces were too reflective. I've watched numerous videos and such for various things. Nevertheless, I'm open to suggestions. I will use more than basic lighting once I put the characters into a scene. I'm using the IRay engine to render even though I do not have an NVIDIA GPU as it looks better overall. Unfortunately, that means I cannot use uberenvironment2; which I am used to using for lighting. I am, however, using IBL via IRAy and I'm using the omkhpark image. I have the sun in the image pretty much lined up with the distant light. Also, I have the environment set to 0.8. Oddly, I had to use different brightness settings for the distant light even though both are in the exact same position for each character.
Any thoughts?

Hello everyone. I've been a Daz Studio user on and off for about seven years now. I'll admit that I mostly dabble. It's not an every day thing. However, I recently got inspired to do character renders for the main characters in the Magium series. It's truly fantastic! The only stories that come remotely close to this are some of the Delight Games books, Major Minor, The Eighth Continent and a couple of others. The characters are quite memorable and you grow to really care about them.
So far, I have a draft of Barry and a rough draft of Daren (no scars and no armor). See link as I could not attach the images for some reason.

For what it's worth, I am in contact with Magium's developer, Cristian Mihailescu. Nevertheless, I am doing this project for pleasure and, thus, not being paid. Why am I posting here? Well, if anyone wants to donate stuff like armor, daggars, cloaks, other medieval clothing, etc to this project, it would be greatly appreciated as I have extremely limited funds right now.
Also, I'd like to know the best way to add scars to characters. I have read about opening the skin texture in Photoshop and adding a scar layer. However, I'd love to be able to do it within Daz or Hexagon. The latter I have not used at all, but I wouldn't mind learning.
Thanks in advance for your help.
