Subject: Windows XP with Carrara Studio 1.1???

riversedge ( ) posted Fri, 26 October 2001 at 10:16 AM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 6:47 AM

Im thinking about going from Win98 to Win XP for it's NT-like stability. Is it compatible with Carrara Studio 1.1, anyone know? Also, I want to use it (XP + Carrara) on a Via Chipset/Athlon machine that does not connect to the internet. Does XP need to connect for some reason to get it up and running or did I just dream that I heard that somewhere? Other software I regularly use are: Rhino 2, Vue 4, Amapi 6, Painter 6, Paint Shop Pro 7, Turbocad 7, DataCAD 8, Opera. Anyone know if Ill find glitches with any of these? Thank you very much, Riv.

As for Carrara running under XP I have no idea. As for the internet connection you did not need an internet connection to install XP. However it will need to be activated, thus nmeaning if no internet coonection is availble you will be givin a Phone # and a 10 - 50 digit code that will be generated after XP isw installed on your system and that code is sent to MS and then another code is sent tyou which will unlock XP is not registered XP will stop running after 30 days. That is the way BILL G himself explained last night on a PBS program.

OK. Thanks. In the past I've reformatted the hard drive on my graphics use computer every 6 to 9 months. Keeps things clean and not too hard to do since there are a limited number of programs installed. I guess this means I'd have to go through the telephone thing every time. Maybe I'll just stick to W98 or even 2000 if it is any mnore reliable than 98. Actually I've not had very many problems with 98 after Via (motherboard chipset) got their act together........Thanks. Riv.

If you want the stability with NT I would go with Windows 2000 Pro. I went from 98SE to 2000 Pro and had it for about 4 months now and haven`t had one problem, very solid OS. I have an Intel P4 1.5 with 256mb of PC800 memory. I am running C1.1, Amapi 6, Bryce5 and Poser4. Go with a proven OS Windows 2000. Dave

I've recently been moving my software to my new computer that came with XP installed. I tried to run Carrara but get this message: "Launch failed. MSVCRT.dll is not the correct version. Please reinstall the application." Re-install didn't fix the problem, nor did the installing the 1.1 patch. RD Studio 5.5, Poser PP, Bryce 4, and Vue 4 run fine. Any thoughts? Thanks.

The problem was with the updater. In changing computers I'd substituted the old MetaCreations 1.01 updater for the Eovia 1.1. Using the right updater did the trick.

Skygirl, the correct updater is availble at Eovia in the Carrara support latest patches and updates area. You want the 1.1 update. http://www.eovia.com/download/updates_car.jsp
