Subject: Dancing Shadows in Poser - Please Help

kiev001 ( ) posted Tue, 11 January 2022 at 1:10 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 7:45 AM

Hi gang! I'm running into an issue I've not experienced before.  I'm rending animation in Poser Pro 2012 via the render queue. Each frame is 1920x1080 using the Firefly renderer.

I'm noticing as I scrub through the frames that there are shadow artifacts and "dancing" going on.

How do I fix this? All lights are not animated and set to depth map. Ambient occlusion is also on.

Any help or tips is appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil

IIRC, it may have something to do with setting the render engine with raytracing on.  Someone will have to jump in and verify that bit of information.

May not be entirely relevant to your problem but why Depth Mapped shadows?  They're awful, not accurate and not advisable if you want things to look good.

Use ray-traced shadows. As the others suggest, depth mapped shadows aren't as accurately drawn, and this adds up to slight errors from frame to frame which will dither about when played back.

Thanks gang! Ray Trace worked. Was worried it would take longer to render, but since I'm using the Queue there have been no issues. Thank you!

Great! Glad you got it sorted out.

After I'd posted, I'd remembered that some IDL set-ups - even with ray-traced shadows - can also generate artifacts which vary semi-randomly between frames and can be distracting in an animation. It's not the problem for you, but I'll leave this here in case someone else comes looking for an answer.
