Subject: V4 and M4 lo-res figures no longer loading

DocMatter ( ) posted Wed, 09 February 2022 at 4:31 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 8:06 AM

For some reason, I can no longer get the lo-res V4 and M4 figures to load from my library.  I used to have them saved to my library, but it no longer can find them.

I can find the obj files for them but can't remember how to make a cr2 file out of them.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

primorge ( ) posted Wed, 09 February 2022 at 5:02 PM

Fast and dirty method off the top of my head...

File import wavefront obj

Choose LOD obj

With imported obj in scene and selected open the set up room. Affirm prompts.

Open Library and load V4 cr2, even better if you have a V4 blank as morphs and such won't work on lower res version. Affirm prompts.

Exit Set Up Room, save figure to library with unique name.

That should work.

Here's a V4 and M4 blank cr2s...

I think V4 and M4 come with LOD meshes, but they only work in DAZ Studio.

Joe Public made a weight mapped M4 for Poser that uses one of the LOD meshes.

There were Reduced Resolution versions of V3 and M3, but I think they did the LOD thing for V4 and M4 instead. There were also Loretta and Lorenzo LoRez, but I don't think they were compatible with V4 and M4.

Primorge -- Thanks for the blank files.  I tried what you said but have a feeling there's a lot more I have to do in the setup room... as seen in the pic.

Any joint I move results in the weird effect you see here.

I'm not very familiar with the setup room. when I've seen that time of thing happening in the fitting room, the first thing I try is copying the joint zones. Save first in case that messes it up worse. Also, open the joint editor window and try adjusting the scale of the inner mat sphere.

Humph. Here's what I got....

Same arm bend. No distortions, relatively, even with less edge loops

ZXHanOFWyzEiygMjPWP1rvu44xDXusSrnsDiIRj2.png

Here's the files. 1K res... I'll try on a higher res but I know what the result will be, I've done this before. I'll post back the result shortly I guess but I was kinda in the middle of something...

V4M4 1K

V44k

V4 4K res. Same pose. Obviously not as pretty as V4's default bends, there's no magnet JCMs here... and that's a problematic bend for V4 at best. Your grouping or joint parms got screwed up somehow in the rig transfer, maybe you got too fancy in your checkboxes?.... Keep it simple. If the files and images aren't sufficient, yeah I don't know. It took like 5 minutes to do this. It took longer changing the geometries file path refs for comparison.

A couple of details I left out.

When I transferred the skeleton I didn't copy morphs or groups. Morphs because I don't think they will work, haven't ever tried that but perhaps a facsimile could be, sorta, made with copy morphs command or D3d's morphing clothes. Groups because these meshes are already grouped by Daz. Plus Poser's auto grouping features, for certain things, from my experience, are hit and miss and produce weird results not comparable to manually grouping externally.

Before I saved the figures to the library I zeroed figure and edit memorized figure.

Also, not sure if it makes a difference, but at this point who knows, this was done in 11's set up room.

V4M4 1k/4k

Corrected a couple of things lol. Removed a bak file and a stray 1k obj file. Hopefully Daz doesn't nail me to the tree of woe over the clumsy infraction. Anyway this zip contains cr2's referencing the DAZpeople LOD geometries for M4 and V4 of 1k and 4k resolution. Original DL links destroyed. That's what I get for doing these things in the midst of other distractions. Apologies.

I just went into the cr2 and changed the existing obj to the lo res obj. Of course, no morphs work, except for the body part movements.

figureResFile :Runtime:Geometries:DAZPeople:blMilWom_v4b_LOD:V4_LOD_17K.obj

Same with 1K, 2K, and 4K.

That's another way of doing it, yes. People seem to be adverse to editing poser files for some reason so I gave the "push button" solution. Of cpurse people seem to be afraid of the set up room also so...

Anyway, sorry I wasted my time. I won't do it again ;)

That's JoePublic's recommendation, basically, that's how I created a low res V4.2.   As mentioned, the morphs can't be transferred by conventional Poser methods.

@ Primorge: I don't believe you have anything to apologize for, you gave some good advice about an alternate method.  Unfortunately, users are always looking for an easier way to achieve what they want without spending too much time jumping through hoops.  Especially, if they intend to use the creation just once or twice.

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but what about asking Poser itself to reduce the geometry?

BTW, solved the morph copy problem.  Copy the morphs from the original V4, set the original morphs to what you want, and do a copy and paste from one figure to the other.  Also, unhide the hidden parameters dials and they work perfectly fine despite the dials showing that they are empty.

Because the OBJ files already exist, all that is required is to edit the link in the CR2, rename it,  and have a fully functional lo-res figure.  Now that I have figured out the morph issues, we have another figure to play with.

Well, I'm not too fond of the V4/M4 meshes out of the box.

But messing around with their LODs is fun:

Here's a "homemade" V4toV3-K4 LOD next to DAZ' original V4toV3.

0aalQoD46scxo3RXlsLbb5rQLZowigrkVLyvlA5s.jpg

(Mine is the one with less texture stretching, BTW)  ;-)

She will have a busy life hanging around in the background without "sticking out" too much from my 3rd Gen DAZ foreground figures. You could call it "Love at fourth sight". Lol.

BTW, someone know a good source of V4/M4 "second skin" clothing?

Actually, I now understand the morph transfer issue between the original V4 and the 17K figure.  Applying a morph pose does nothing in activating the channels, but if you transfer the morphs from the original figure and then unhide the hidden parameter dials, you will see working dials with the designation 'EMPTY-' before the morph name.  Rename the channel and uncheck the 'hidden' box in its settings then you have a morphable figure.  I just transferred a Stephanie 4 and Aiko 4 morph and now I have Lo-Res figures of each.

JoePublic ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2022 at 12:11 PM

A neat trick, HBorre. I actually didn't know this.

I usually turned ERC morphs into "actual" morphs and transfered these over. Some cleaning up is required though especially around the mouth/lip area.

DocMatter ( ) posted Thu, 17 February 2022 at 9:58 AM

I tried the editing the cr2 method and it worked great (no morphs yet, but I'll try that later.)

Thanks for all the suggestions folks!  I'll try the setup room again when I have time... it still scares the hell out of me!  ;)

The morphs are rather finicky with my approach, not all of them translate.  FBM's do convert, I've managed to make a 17K M4 WM Morphed figure in my spare time.

The problem is V4 uses ERC's to actuate ERC's to actuate ERC's, especially for the expressions.

So I usually first spawn "proper" morphs for all the basic expressions I need and then use Poser's "Copy Morphs From" to transfer the morphs. As I said, especially around the lips where the original mesh intersects a little, some vertices can get stuck.

But this can be usually easily fixed with the MorphBrush.

To "cleanup" all those unused injection channels, I then use the good old MorphManager to copy a set of working facial morphs to a blank cr2. (The body morphs I usually create from scratch anyway)

Okay... Ive got a new problem with the lo-res figures.  They work great in Poser, but for some reason, if I try to use them in Daz, they blow up when I try a pose.

In the pics (Poser on the left and Daz on the right) is the exact same figure with the exact same pose.  I've tried lots of different poses and no matter what, she blows up in Daz.  I've tried it with and without the dress as well.  Same result.

Suggestions?

In Poser, load both the 17K version and an original V4.  Select the LOD and then do a 'Copy Joint Zones From' the original V4.  Save the figure back to the library.  Load into DS and attempt to pose.  I have both a 17k V4 and M4 that I can load into DS without pose distortions.  The parameter morphs dials don't work but they're posable.  Same method.

DocMatter ( ) posted Fri, 18 February 2022 at 7:01 PM

Got a 17k to work, but a 4K still blows up.  I'm gonna call it quits for the day while I'm ahead.  Thanks for your help!
