Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 28 11:20 am)
So just for giggles, I made a few test renders of some textures I thought did a great job under P12 circumstances and...wow. You are right. While they do a good job with the hand maps, the *palm* maps are...I don't really know if it's the mesh or the textures but...even the ones I thought did a good job didn't fare well with those specifics.
And I never liked her ears and am not sure you can fix those with maps. It may be something with the mesh. My LFs are always subd'd by 2, and the ears are just not convincing as ears.
Anyone else? I'd post renders but am a bit ashamed just how not good-looking those palms and ears are. I'd love to see some good palm maps and ear morphs rendered in P12.
I'll try some different setups.
First pass on hands:
(default shape for comparison)
Hands will be a bit trickier to get right due to rigging, not sure if match centers will work on them but I'll try it and see. Will probably require a couple jcms to get wrist to bend better too.
(edited to resize images cause forum options didn't take)
With the hands it's not so much the bending, though I do like what you are doing, it's the lack of texture to the skin in most cases. It's like people forget to do decent bumps or normals for her hands so even if they've drawn in the lines they're still flatter than a sheet of paper.
The ears are looking better, less android, more humanoid looking.
@Sunfire, What got me while I test rendered some packages was exactly that. Extremely detailed maps for the hand, and flatness snd nothing but color on the palm. A few ethnic textures had good texture maps for the inside of the palm with the lines, but even there the inside skin of the fingers was just... flat and smooth. Almost like they were just forgotten.
@Rhia474 Yeah, I'm not surprised on the lack of fingerprints, but the joints and palm...
Okay, this is not as bad as I thought, albeit it's still quite flat jarring.
Or this:
But still, look at the details the face and the outside hand skin has and how shard the dividing line is...something a real hand would not display unless it's skingrafted or something.
I hope content creators can chime in here.
In fear of being bashed, I thought I chime in. It does look skeletal (not natural) out of the box, and I had to thicken it myself with morphs. The hands takes me out of the figure in itself. The ears are okay to me.

Yes, and in Poser 12 you can use anti-aliasing, part of the software now, to further clean up the image after render and before you save it. It will wash out fine details like "sparkles" though had you been using it, it should have smoothed her face too.I render in Superfly.
No, I don't use anti aliasing. To be honest I don't even know where to set it, I use the postFX settings only on occasion--the denoising smoothes out too much. And yes, it would have shown on all parts of the body, not just the palm.
For the ears there are several morphs and there is a HD ear morph that works well. The freestuff ear details work well too. I'm more surprised by the lack of palm details, though it seems not many other people are...
I don't know why I call it anti-aliasing, since I meant the denoising in the postFX settings. *headdesk*
I sometimes do promo images without it, especially if I want the "sparkles" and impurities. Sparkle doesn't work in SF very well and even less when you denoise the image. LOL.
If I remember correctly, the PostFX denoising thingie should have a controllable intensity in a future update

By the mention of 'sparkles', are you actually referring to fireflies in the render? Those are products of lighting most of the time especially if you are using HDRI illumination. It is most apparent in lo-res HDR. The best way to deal with those is to increase your number of pixels or change the HDR for a hi-res image.I sometimes do promo images without it, especially if I want the "sparkles" and impurities. For the ears, here: https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/83156/detail-ears-morph-for-la-femme
It's a merchant resource, include it merged with your morphs for redistribution, have fun.
For her hands I keep trying to retouch them but I'm never too pleased. Might make a product on it.

Yes, Blackhearted made some morphs to smooth the hands after people complained that LF had witch fingers. I guess he likes bony fingers in a girl.
You have inject them (they're with the body morphs). There's one to thicken the fingers, and one to smooth the hands.
There's also finger and thumb morphs in the hands that might help.

The top right does look more realistic to me. Her current default ear reminds me too much of Odo from Star Trek DS9, smooth and fake.
Ohki has some free morphs that do make the ears look more realistic that I like... and forget to use. LOL.

The more I do promos for my products that I make for La Femme, the more I notice the palms and inside of her fingers are too smooth and flat. I've also noticed that her ears look equally unrealistic.
So now I'm here asking, has anyone made textures/bump maps for La Femme that could well fix these issues?
