Subject: CPU use for DAZ

Cobbler3D ( ) posted Fri, 24 June 2022 at 12:31 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 12:52 AM

Hi all,

Right now I have a 3080 TI GPU doing my rendering in my rig. Let's say I go past the VRAM amount in textures for a render and the render drops processing down to the CPU. What CPU brand is better to have for DAZ Studio to perform better, an Intel chip or AMD? or does it make any difference at all?

Thanks!

Having 'more slightly slower cores' is better than 'fewer faster cores'.

Which translates to it being AMD Ryzen or Threadripper.

(...but keep your expectations low, a recent Iray benchmark posted over at DAZ for an AMD 3950X showed it roughly equivalent to a GTX 1650!)

I chose my AMD Ryzen 5800x because of power efficiency and thermal performance.  The latest Gen 12 Intels are better performance-wise, but I did not think the gain was worth the extra power draw and heat.

Hi all, thanks for the info-

My 16 year old Motherboard fried the other day and I decided to go Ryzen 9 series to replace the internals of the 1st revision I7 that served me for a long time. CPU rendering was a dog though until I got the RTX 3080 TI. Should the GPU for some reason drop the render I would be glad to see that a modern CPU would pick it up and not take 48 hours to finish a render lol.

Good choice - Ryzen 9s are a great deal at the present.  Happy rendering, Cobbler3D!!

Hey thanks for your and everyone's feedback to steer me towards Ryzen. It has been 16 years of happy years with my  old PC that I haven't kept up on Moore's Law and its effect on the latest CPUs. Apparently my hair is going to be blown back when I get everything assembled again lol
