Subject: Challenge: simulate the Cycle GlassBsdf node for FireFly

odf ( ) posted Tue, 06 December 2022 at 1:59 AM · edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 12:11 PM
I'm trying to be nice and give my freebies materials that also work with Firefly. But the old Poser node system gives me the heebie-jeebies. Can anyone help?

FireFly is a Reyes render engine and unlike cycles it's not confined by the physics of light. It's will do mostly anything it's told, even breaking the laws of physics. This also means it doesn't do any of the things light does without being told to.

Here's a fairly simple comparison between Tempest(FF) and Cycles(SF). Both doing basically the same thing.

Thanks Nerd! That's a start. The Fresnel node produces refraction and reflection in my test scene, as advertised. However, if I apply the FF shader to a flattened box to simulate a glass pane, there doesn't seem to be any light going through the back face. I'm assuming that's a problem with my render settings. It took me a while to figure out decent SF settings, so I wouldn't be too surprised.

Ah, never mind, I just needed to increase the number of raytrace bounces.
