Subject: Unzipping Renderosity products

Hi all, I know this sounds ridiculous, but... I am going crazy trying to install my zipped products into the correct DAZ folders. They just don't show up in DAZ, either in the Smart Content or the Content library. I have tried unzipping into every runtime folder I have, still nothing. I have runtimes in three different hard drives; each one is mapped correctly in the content database directories for DAZ to find them. The "correct" (I think) directory would be on my H drive: H:\DAZ Programs\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\, but no. It's full of older Rendo products, just won't show more recent stuff - that's the only link I can make as to why... Can someone cleverer point me in the right direction please? Thanks everyone!

How are you unzipping? You need the /data and /runtime folders from the zips to merge with any existing /data or /runtime folders, and the same for any folders (e.g. people or props) at the same level in the zip. Unless the product includes emtadata and you import it the fiels will appear only in the Content Library under Daz Studio Formats and/or Poser Formats.

Mac users should merge.

A late response, but it is what it is...

My suggestion is to dedicate a separate folder to all your 3rd party 3D assets, thus including items bought on Renderosity. Unpacking... make sure you recognize key locations, not all vendors are strict with this... But also make sure you understand the difference between Daz Studio assets and Poser assets, although DS supports Poser it's not the same and support isn't 100% foolproof either.

Reason I mention: Poser is known for the Runtime folder. But Daz Studio is not.

"Props", "People", "Data"... as soon as those are the main folders with "Runtime" as an optional extra then you'll have Daz Studio contents on your hands. These folders can get burried because some authors are lazy (IMVHO!) and just zip up their own library. So you end up with: "My Library\Props" (for example). Meaning: you only need the "Props" folder and put that into its right place.

"Geometries", "Libraries" and "Textures"; those are the subfolders that are usually part of "Runtime", ergo we're dealing with Poser contents this time.

Unpack your stuff accordingly, and then, within Daz Studio:

* Press F2.
* Open the "Content" tab, click the bottom option: "Content Directory Manager".
* Click on the "Daz Studio Formats" section, then click "Add" and add the folder where you extracted your goodies to.
* Now click on "Poser Formats" and do the exact same thing as above: add the exact same folder.

Once that's all done: Open the content library pane, expand the appropriate section (Daz format or Poser format) and dig into what you need.

This would have been easier to answer if you'd have mentioned a specific product name. Either way, this is roughly how it works.

Having multiple Runtime folders spread all over is actually bad practice, it only complicates things. You really don't need that. At a minimal I'd suggest adding 1 extra library besides your standard Daz 3D library; never bother with that one because it can make things impossible to maintan.

Hope this could still help a bit.
