Blender F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 8:44 pm)
Hello Joe
The asset library feature in Blender is not similar to how the asset or runtime libraries are in either Poser or Daz now Daz does have a tool that is lets send a your Daz character to Blender that is similar to GOZ but it is for a scene that you have open in Daz Studio as to Poser exporting characters and or props from Poser in either FBX, Alembic or OBJ and then import them into Blender and from there you can create your own Asset Library from your saved Blend files. But at current there is no direct importing of asset libraries as a whole. Here is a good Tutorial and introduction to the Blender Asset Library by Grant Abbot which might help in getting a better understand
Asset Browser - Beginners Guide - Blender 3
I hope this helps

Thanks to everyone.
Since animation is essential to work, and I really want to work in Linux, Using DAZ indefinitely is out of the question. Maybe if they every make a Linux version like they promised a million years ago. So FBX seems like "it".
I still haven't gotten my modeling skills back up to where they were when I was using Lightwave, but once I get a workflow and master my tools, my knowledge of topology and edge loops should translate well.

Works in Linux. Very well. Because it is a Blender Plugin written in Python (Blender was born in Linux).Have you looked at Diffeomorphic? Not sure if it works in Linux tho.
DAZ Studio and Poser also runs with Linux/WINE. The simplest way is by installing https://usebottles.com/
Well, Fatal crashes on both Poser and DAZ Studio under Zorin 16 Linux.

I installed it with Ubuntu, Fedora and Debian using "Bottles". More or less out of the box.
I don't know what "Zorin 16" is. Anyway, it sounds like it's a packaged Linux made specifically for very weak devices (minimum requirement: 1 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM).
And: Does the "16" in the name stand for "16 bit"?
Maybe you should try a more standard Linux version. Bottles (the layer above WINE) is still a relatively fresh development. May be that rather exotic Linux variants are not (yet) considered.

Now that Blender 3.x has an asset library feature, does anyone have a way to bring their Poser/Daz Assets in?
I have a small fortune in Poser/DAZ stuff and I'm a Linux guy, so I would rather invest my time bringing everything over while I'm stuck it Windows for Unreal Assets.
It's ben like 3 years since I've run Windows and my Poser skill are stalled at Poser 7.
