As much as i try i cannot get lighting to stick in my head and just find it hard to do anything but basic stuff. I would like to put a light in the lamp on the scene below but i'm just getting more and more fustrated by it. some advice please ( like your talking to an idiot because in this subject i am!)

I just want light coming from the lamp in the bears paws. I will give them links a read thanks.

Are you using Firefly or Superfly?

You will be better off with the Point light, less noise if you render with Superfly, and use transparency instead of the glass in the lantern.

I love using Superfly but I have to say that in situations like this I tend to fall back into the old ways and use a point light, it just seems more comfortable.  I tend to use emission a lot more if there is a display involved which is quite often seeing my leaning to sci-fi for many of my renders.
