Subject: How many queue manager licences?

AcePyx ( ) posted Mon, 03 April 2023 at 8:54 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 11:52 AM

The manual say "You can run up to 3 instances of the Queue Manager simultaneously."
This is from a single Poser purchase. Very good.

Bondware's marketing says "We've added support for more remote rendering services"

Extra instances are not services. This suggests to me the possibility of 3rd party services?

More importantly, how many instances could you run off a single Poser licence with 12? The P12 manual says,

"The first time you start the Queue Manager, you will be prompted to type in your name and your Queue Manager serial number in the Queue Manager Personalize screen. "

Not true, and now try to run it loads QM 13.

"...the number of systems you can use simultaneously will be limited to the number of Queue Manager nodes that are included with your Poser purchase. You can determine how many nodes are available to you by looking at your Queue Manager serial number."

What serial number? For some reason my Poser 12 upgrade order is missing from the Orders section of my account so I can't check to see if I was sent a queue manager password (99% sure I wasn't).

Any thoughts please?

If you are trying to run Queue Manager 12 you will have to go into the programs folder for Poser 12 (not the desktop shortcut) and Run the QM from there.  You can only have one QM running on a machine at the same time.  So, if you run Poser 12 the remote machines will need to be running the Poser 12 version also.  Also, in computer speak anything that is not running on the local machine is a remote service.  So, you start the QM on a remote machine and that is providing a service to your machines QM.

Thanks for your reply Richard. Poser 13 default licence enables you to install Poser on three separate machines for the sake of rendering. Do you know how many Poser 12 permits on the defaul licence?

Not sure about Queue Manager, but Poser itself could only be put on 3 machines.  Back when Poser was owned by Smith Mirco you had to have the Pro version and the license for that allowed 9999 installs.  Not sure anyone ever had that made machines running on the same network.  One of the Beta testers for 12 had a render farm which had around 16 computers.  I never installed the QM from 12 on other machines since I have one powerful system and a couple of old ones that could not keep up.

I haven't looked at the Poser 12 manual in a while & it seems a bit muddled on the topic of Queue Manager licenses.  There was actually no limit on the number of render nodes you could setup for Poser 12 and it did not require you to enter a SN.

We added back the requirement for a SN on Queue Manager for Poser 13 to cover the costs of implementing full GPU support on remote render nodes mostly for animators.  Each Poser license comes with 3 seats that you can use for workstations or render nodes (enter that SN into Queue Manager when prompted).  You can add additional seats to an existing Poser license for $99.

Thank Tim - so that's $99 for one additional licence or 3?

Thank you Tim. Can I just confirm one other point - the new cycle engine now upports micro facet displacement correct?
