actor poses nicely but when I apply poses from menu, she jumps to new location and returns to prior size, etc. how can I keep her in one place?

I'm afraid that zero translation and zero morphs have been baked into those poses.  Not much can be done to undo that damage without editing the file externally.  If the morph for the figure is saved in the Poser Library, reapply it and move the figure to its intended position.

It's not you.  It's the vendor who created the poses.

You can't remove that information from the pose file, however, you can create a new pose that doesn't have than information.

In the pose tab of your library, go to where you want to save the pose and make sure you have the figure selected. Hit the save button on the library (the little plus)

name the file and hit okay

then in the next window, leave all three boxes empty and hit okay

in the final window hit okay and you have the corrected pose. You can then apply that to your morphed, scaled, and positioned figure.
