Try assembling simple scenes and compile a series of renders. If you get similar results, fill out a support ticket. It may be a bug.
Also, DoF is dependent on aperture values (f-Stop) and distance. The larger the f-Stop value, the sharper the image will be within a distance range. The lower the f-Stop value, the shallower the sharpness within a distance range. You will need to consider this when rendering a portrait or landscape. You will need to increase the pixel sampling to refine the final render, too low and the background will appear too grainy.
I just wanted to add another observation regarding the DoF function.
In the aftermath of my initial posting, I went to check if I could render the scene with another camera without the DoF effect.
Turns out the DoF is turned on in every camera available.
Since the DoF checkbox in the render settings panel is unchecked in any case, DoF can't be turned off for this particular file.
I didn't checked if a new scene is also set to use DoF. If that's the case I will come back and put in another post.
Addition to the previous post:
I created a new scene and rendered it, everything was fine.
I switched DoF on, took a render and DoF worked as expected.
I switched DoF off and took a render with face, dolly, aux, hand and posing camera...DoF was always active.
I created a new camera, rendered the shot and...still DoF is on.
The moment you switch DoF on, the scene can't be rendered without DoF anymore.
I also tryed to get rid of it by hitting the undo button to the point the scene was empty.
It doesn't work.

Hello fellow Poser User,
I'm working on a scene right now with two figures involved.
Just to see if it works for that scene, I switched Depth of Field on, did a few test renders but it doesn't came out as I thought it would.
Long story short, I switched DoF off in the render settings, rendered the shot again and it seems, the DoF is still active despite the fact that I switched it off.
I'm running the latest version of Poser 13.3.824.
My Nvidia GPU driver is fresh installed.
Is anyone made a similar observation?
Does anyone have an idea what's the cause of this, other then a corruped pz3 file?
