An exciting development you may have noticed is the increase in 3D content in web pages. In particular I refer to the amazing virtual worlds being produced by Adobe Atmosphere. Imaging chatting real time and seeing the virtual person you are talking to. Brows the virtual mall and examine what you want to purchase from all angles. Enter an online car show room and take the car for a virtual drive. All possible with this program. What I'm particularly excited with is the ability to use Poser based and... BIG HINT ... future Poser based content in these worlds.

To demonstrate what I mean I have set up a simple world for you to explore. The program is still in public beta so there are bugs. That said however, my maid is waiting for you, be a shame to disappoint her :)

You will need the free Viewer plug in. If your browser has problems then run the viewer as a stand alone application and access this world by typing

/goto http://www.philc.net/worlds/world3/world3_1public.aer into the text field

Enjoy :)

What do you think of it the whole virtual world, does it load easy and fast, is it going to be available for all people to see and use? I really think this might be interesting. Just want to know really what you think of it as a whole for others. Sharen PS: been reading alot about it, so I do understand it, just don't know about most people being able to get it

Very neat stuff. i was just there, but for some reason I cant type anywhere, It's like my keyboard is gone. I can move arround, I saw the maid and she said, "Hi tester" But I just stood there trying to figure out how to respond. I'll try to get it to work. This new format will sure be popular very quick.

Its my understanding that the Viewer will be free. Much the same way as the Adobe reader for PDF files. To build a world you would need the Atmosphere Builder. Avatars however can be made in other applications and then loaded in the Viewer.

Currently you may do better running the Viewer on its own, the one I have embedded in the web page is not currently allowing me to type into the text field for some reason.

I am indeed very excided by all this :)

Prior to Adobe picking up the product, this used to be called 3D Anarchy. A lot of people who used to build worlds in the Activeworlds Universe (www.activeworlds.com) started building worlds in 3D Anarchy. I found it difficult to move around unless you had a highend computer, which I did not at that time. I did have a chance a while back to check it out as Adobe Atmosphere. Not much had really changed. Makes me wonder why its still in beta. After hanging around for so long in the Activeworlds Universes (including owning 2 of my own worlds) its was difficult for me to view 3D Anarchy/Adobe Atmosphere as a better product :) I will have to install the Adobe browser again and check it out once more :))

Now if only we can improve the level of people's chat. Now we have all this new technology so 12 year olds can say "Wassup dudes? WhO'z DrInKiN???" Mike

It has been said that if you gave an infinite number of monkeys a typewriter each and left them alone in an infinite number of small rooms for an infinite length of time, eventually you would produce the complete works of Shakespeare.

The internet has proved this theory to be erroneous smilie.gif

So true Mike, I played with Atmosphere a lot making tons of avatars for it back in March. At first there were some really great developers of Adobe to talk with as well as software developers, where we had decent intelligent conversation. But it degraded to a dumbed down level. The developers lost interest and and there was a flood of worldwide clueless newbies. New people would pour in, and circle around have childish conversations then do nothing but ask me, "Oooh can I have that avatar", "Will you make me a ..." It was fun at first but after a while the joy was gone. I was hoping more would come of it. Michael

Phil, It was great seeing you last night, with the French maid. She is lovely. Regarding chats, it's true that chats can degrade to the level of high school kids hanging out in the mall parking lot on a friday night, but that's where your participating makes a difference. You can drive the conversation how you want to. Be playful, or informative, tease each other or share Atmosphere locations. It's like being at a party. If there isn't any good conversation, make some. Be wicked or wild or just hang out. The great thing about Atmosphere is that there are a lot of worlds, thousands now, and there are a lot of links to get into them. You can get a group of friends together online, cruise through a bunch of worlds, connect and explore, then teleport to somewhere new. It's like communal website surfing. And there are some great sites (i mean worlds) out there. With Atmosphere's internal physics you can even mess around in things like skateparks (there is one by the way, with a great half pipe in which you can actually accelerate and jump) The Adobe entry world leaves a little to be desired, but get a bunch of people together to go to your world or check out your cool avatar, hmmm is that the Poser angle??? Anyway, Phil- great work as usual. What a crazy place we're in together. kupa
