In case you still have problems, take the link to Peter Sharp's tutorials. He has a few tutorials on Poser to Bryce texture re-assigning. They are for Poser figures, but even if you are doing props or whatever, it will still help you understand what to do. Agent Smith

I dont think you need to run them through UV. I work on a Mac and have never had any problems importing Poser figures by this means. The PC architecture may be different in this respect, but its worth a try. UV is good only IMVHO if you want to somehow rearrange the mapping structure or if you need to create a template, but I rarely use it for anything beyond that.
You're welcome. I understand your needing to run the model through UVMapper to make it usable, Don't why this problem sometimes exsists, or why UVMapper fixes it, it just does, at least there is a fix. Not sure on putting the .obj, .mtl and image files together in the same folder before running the .obj through the UVMapper. Thinking about it, that is what I do...I export from Poser, copy any image maps used on my Poser model to the folder along with the .obj/.mtl, and then run the .obj through UVMapper, and then on into Bryce. Not sure if that is necessary though, in the end...can't hurt to do so. An .mtl is basically just a text file that can explain what image maps are applied to your model. If you are curious, manually change the .mtl file extension to .txt and view it. You should see the names of your image maps in there. A .mtl file doesn't keep path names to image maps, that is why you need to have the image maps in the same folder along with everything else. Agent Smith

I tried to do it by just copying the files to the same folder and not run it through the UV Mapper and that did not work. It's been a very busy day, so I will try all the other options tomorrow. Thanks for the tip on the mtl file. I did not know that. Now I will be certain that I get all the files I need for this. Stay tuned.....
The clothes are usually what cause the problems in the import, more than the figures. What I usually do is pose them and then export the offending piece (the one that causes bad media) to a separate file. The Milkids jeans are one such item that is out of whack. This way mostly everything will stay except for the one bad piece. Saves some time.
You do NOT need to use UVmapper. But Grouper (see previous threads for URL) is very helpful. I/O errors seem to result from various problems; sometimes just lack of memory. Malformed props/clothes can indeed be a problem also. It's not necessary to move the texture files around as long as you don't mind directing Bryce to the correct directory when you load the .obj. I keep all mine in Poserruntimetextures. Once Bryce has been shown the correct place for one of the files, it will find any others in the same directory by itself.

Greetings friends. I'm looking for the best/simplest tutorial that explains how to reassign all the mappings, transparencies etc. for Poser objects. I have some Poser files that I've exported as OBJ's and when I try to import them, I get the I/O error. It was suggested that I run it through UV Mapper, which does work. The model comes in as a grey scale, so I need to reassign everything. I've never done that before, so I'm looking for a good tutorial that is simple, to the point and can tell me the best way to do that. I'm almost positive it will be time consuming, but as long as I cand to it, I'll be happy. Thanks in advance for the help.
