Subject: anyone ever dealt with Renderotica ?

Cozmic ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2001 at 1:23 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 11:54 AM

clicked a link from Renderosity .......was looking for poses/morphs/textures took me to an automatic sign-up page. I took the TIME (which I consider very valuable) to register .... got an e-mail reply with a password .....have tried 22 times unsuccessfully to enter the site and keep getting errors invalid password ... followed the link to get a confirmation and a new password and yet no replies .....(again , MORE of MY time) now it seems that I`ve been getting port scanned repeatedly (183 times in 2 hours) from that site .......... has anyone had any GOOD dealings with these people ? or is this site a lame attempt to gather users information ? If the latter is true then I feel sorry for the people operating the site, as not ALL of us are computer illiterate ........ and others should be aware .

Its a legit site. I think they are havig problems with the software that they run there site on. Don't know what they plan to do to remedy the problem but you are not alone with in your difuculties. I don't go there much but have herd many others mention these very same problems.

I've been a member since their onset and have never encountered the problems you have experienced.

They have had trouble for long time now, I can only access the Store but last night I was afraid to attempt to try and make a purchase........????

Contact DTHUREGRIF@aol.com (that's an email address) and they will take care of your problem. They've had some problems with people registering with false or inactive email address and their new software tries to deal with this issue. It's a little buggy. I've had no problems with purchasing things from them and they have been responsive to problems in the past.

well , thanks for the responses folks. if this is the way they conduct business , and run their website then Id much rather give my money to someone else. Whatever their software problem is , they better tend to it quickly , as even after changing IPs , I am still getting probed from them at least 4 times a minute , and Im about to make that stop happening, as I dont have the patience for their incompetence.

Kelderek ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2001 at 3:58 PM

I run a firewall on my computer, and it has never reported any probing attempts from Renderotica.

DTHUREGRIF ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2001 at 4:08 PM

I just spoke to our host/programmer and he informs me that there is no way or reason for our server to be actively probing anyone. We use cookies to confirm passwords and that is it. There is nothing in our programming that would probe anyone's computer other than the normal port probes that happen when you request a page. And if you changed IP's, Cozmic, and are still getting probed without having returned to our site, then something else is going on here. Please contact me at DTHUREGRIF@aol.com

I do have problems using NS browser at R'otica (java?) and found that I have to use IE to navigate there. Firewall has never reported a probe from them though -- (unless they are using one of those annoying IP no.s registered in Tiawan.) :-0

Barbarellany ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2001 at 4:40 PM

Yes they are having problems. When I signed up i had the same issue of the passwork not going through. They sent a sencond and that worked. Then the purchace problem. I could only purchase through Netscape but couldn't download my purchase that way. I had to switch browsers again for download. Clearing my funds also took hours after which there is only a 24 hour download window. I could have missed the window if I hadn't had to go to my mail for another reason. I was cleared in the middle of the night! They were helpful but I am hesitant to use them again

DTHUREGRIF ,
I registered under the name Cozmic.......
tried to access the site with Netscape 6 and netscape 4.79, and yes ,the 2nd set of scans were after trying once again to enter and see what was available. I also know about the cookies , as I am "informed" when a cookie is placed on my machine , and who it comes from.
and you`re right , cookies do not probe ports..... so yes there is a problem there.

I also understand about the piggybacking,so I will dig into my logs and e-mail them to you. I run 2 firewalls and they both went crazy this morning after registering and trying to access Renderotica.Mail will be later this evening as my internet connection is very limited ATM.

as for my "account" , you may delete anything regarding "Cozmic" you have in your database as Ive wasted 1/2 a day and havent even been able to see if there is actually something I am even interested in .....

I might also suggest for future reference ,that you do not make people sign up immediately , give them the opportunity to at least view the items you have available....... then IF they would like to buy something , they should be made to sign up for your forum. I buy a lot from the "smaller people" who create models/textures,etc. , trying to support peoples hard work and dedication in graphics. But Im afraid in this case , I`ll go elsewhere.......

I do hope you get your problems worked out.

Cozmic.. and anyone else having problems getting on the site. Send me your prefered username and i will get you set up in the database. Also please send me on all the information about the probes so I can locate the problem for you. Thanks Stormrage

Me andmy husband have used opera, netscape 4 and netscape 6 and ie 5 for rotica and never run into any problems but we will attempt to locate the problems

saxon ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2001 at 5:56 PM

Never any problems here either, hey you're complaining about being probed by Diana?!

Bia ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2001 at 8:10 PM

I ALWAYS have problems there. I also delete all my cookies so maybe that's the problem. I don't like them. I haven't been in a while because I can never get on even though I registered. I realize it may be buggy software, but, it still keeps me from going to the site these days. sigh

Roy G ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 3:33 AM

For what it's worth, the site is actually running much better now than it has in the past. I have also made purchases there and been very happy with them as well.

The port scanning thing bothers me so I hope they figgure that out.

Phantast ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 5:09 AM

It wouldn't be the first time the site has been maliciously attacked ...

Bia ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 10:51 AM

Stormrage...I am registered under Bia. Please get me back in! I like buying stuff there but have stayed away because the site always says I have a bad password, or username or whatever and i can't get on. Thanks! :)

Darian ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 11:59 AM

Diane, Just a suggestion. You guys should notify people on your homepage about the problems so folks dont get pissed trying to log in. Thanks for the great work. D.
