Hi I am making a program for poser file management/automated distribution packaging/cr2 edits/morph managing/phi building/cr2 link checking and lots more stuff. I would like to have some kind of idea of what the standard poser community uses for an OS and the size of you current poser directory. for instance, I use Windows ME and my Poser directory is ~1 gb in size. I ask because even windows systems will not report various items the same...such simple things as acquiring "free disk space" are not reported and handled the same way for each one (silly huh?) and I want to know how many people use what OS so I know what areas to focus on... this also gives me an idea of how many poser files an average user of poser has. thanx BT

My Poser directory is very nearly 2GB. However, I keep most of my Poser stuff elsewhere. I have a further 1.6GB or more on my hard disk and several CD-ROMs, and six or seven Zip disks of Poser stuff. Then there's the 3D stuff that I've developed outside Poser which probably runs to another 3 or 4 GB. I use Win 98 on my desktop, and Win 95 on my laptop. Don't ask. I don't know why either. Maz

Windows 98SE Poser directory ~ 750Mb (desperate for a faster machine with more space! but who isn't?)

CatDabbler ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 6:16 PM

I am using a Win98 SE computer. My Poser directory is almost 4GBs with Runtime at about 3GB. I keep most of the zip files, images, texture templetes, extra templets, morphs, ...on CDROMs. Lynn

lalverson ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 9:07 PM

Mind you the 16 gb is just the stuff I use, we will not go to the "Off Line" HDD (20GB)

Heres my specs: Celeron 700 Win2000 Pro 128 MB RAM (upgrading soon to maybe a 1.1GHz) Runtime: 2.1 GB DAZ: 372 MB Freestuff: 450 MB (Zipped at ~89% and not installed) Templates: 400 MB All this stuff is regularly used. This puts my entire Poser program at 2.2 GB... Thats all. Geez I thought it was more than that.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 10:31 PM

Mac 9.1 I keep my current projects on separate Zips so I can keep the size of my RunTime folder relatively small. It makes the program run far more efficiently, from what I can see. Having said that, tonight I started CD #23 of archives, some of it Bryce, some of it QuickTime movies, but the overwhelming amount Poser material. Ive developed a very specific indexing program so I can readily find the materials I need for any given project instead of having to dump everything on my HD.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 10:34 PM

Windows 98 First Edition (no, really!!) Poser directory: 663 MB (I run a very tight ship) Miscellaneous: 2.33 GB (zipped and waiting its turn) I'll be moving up to Windows XP Home Edition sometime next year, after the bugs are ironed out.

Damn I can't believe the size of my runtime directory.... Win 98SE, 1.33Gb Athlon, 768Mb Ram, 160GB HD, 60 Gb for Poser alone. My Runtime directory is 11.9Gb 15,903 files Alot of stuff I'll probably never use but with the big HD I'll probably never need to trim it down much. Ed

mi-scha ( ) posted Wed, 05 December 2001 at 2:25 AM

OS: Windows XP
Runtime: over 6 Gb, growing rapidly

I also have a german version of Poser. :P
In this version the names of some folders are different (figures -> Figuren, and so on). Everytime I install something I have to move the library stuff in the correct directories. This bugs me endlessly.
A installation routine which could figure this out would be very good.

Windows ME (And disappointed with it)

oooo..oooo whats the name of the 'geometries' folder in the german version of poser? lol..some of you have HUGE poser runtimes.. keep em coming, this is helping me :) thanx BT

mi-scha ( ) posted Wed, 05 December 2001 at 6:51 AM

In the german version the 'geometries' folder is called 'geometries'. ;) Otherwise I would also have to hack the Cr2. Only library folders are different. I'm at work, when (if) I go home I take a look and post a list of the names.
