another shot. details: made it with poser, anim8or, uvmapper (i was having a love affair with uvmapper last month, this month i'm in a love triangle: anim8or) ... and ps for that awful sample texture i knocked up... didn't have time last night to make a real tex and trans, i got some sleep!!! :D it weighed in a 700kb, about 6500 facets according to uvmapper, if i recall correctly (it's at home, i can't see it now) this took me one night (about 5 hours) but only cos i spent about 8 hours on the first model, which totally sucks and i won't be showing it here, haha. it will take me a few more nights to give it morphs and stuff. so much fun! :)

April--you sure are working hard! Are you ready to show us a front view?

Please remember to include some hairline--you know, not showing bald skin underneath fat sausage curls.

My own hair grows in ringlets--nowhere near as neat as that! This looks almost like dreadlocks.

i'm afraid that the long bendy curly hair is still closest to reality, and it still leaves a lot to be desired.

Oh yes, the above is a miserable sketch tossed off with the Wacom tablet, to illustrate a little.

AprilYSH ( ) posted Fri, 07 December 2001 at 6:49 PM

um, yep, i am working on it. not this weekend as i've got real life stuff hapenning (weddings, parties, anything g) there is a scalp under the ringlets which i texture to make a widow's peak or hairline, whatever you want to call that. :) it only shows at the front hairline now cos I happened to make the ringlets cover it all. if you make the ringlets skinny i guess it might show through. right now it's one chunky prop, i will redo so it's a figure with some curls (the top ones and side ones?) posable and sizable, etc. i guess i'll add a length morph too. so i plan on it being posable! the one thing i can't do right now is conform it to the shoulders and chest. i don't have propack and don't know how to make conforming items. so tough luck (again) for animators - SORRY! if anyone would care to point me to a conforming tute that doesn't require apps i don't own, i might give it a go. this will be a secondary goal to posability though... ok, as i said i was making this for myself. i was a tad proud of it and prematurely released a pic of it instead of waiting to finish the pic i'm working on. i didn't expect Sassy to think i was selling it! ok, so i IMed her saying i'll give it to her free. now you guys are so nice i have to give it free to you too. looks at list Cin-, LayrieA, pokeydots, PookasCrayon, SergeantJack, rasputina, Lyrra, Fyrene, SAMS3Dm nikita, Micheleh, nfredman expect an IM when I finish it. As for anyone else wanting it, I decided to sell it at 3-darena as a contribution item for bandwidth cos my hostess had to pay extra for hosting our free stuff. I would like to contribute some profit towards that. Xmas spirit and all. :) It will be very cheap, whatever the minimum price i can set with her store... I haven't looked as I was never interested in selling stuff before now. lol If (by miracle) sales happen to exceed a figure she mentioned offhand (she couldn't know I'd do this g) then it might go towards my michael fund... so I can remap him! lol Does that sound okay? Do you think it would sell or are you guys above the only ones interested in the first place? lol Ahh well, whatever. :) Expected nothing from this so I won't be dissapointed to get that! ;)

rasputina ( ) posted Mon, 10 December 2001 at 10:39 PM

I love this hair, had to come back to the thread and look at your images again, these are wonderful spiral curls and a beaded. This would be great, with lots of textures as well, as mentioned above with beads and the right colouring they could be dreads as well. So super!

Cin- ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 12:00 AM

I actually missed bits and pieces of this thread, I'm glad you revisted Rasputina! In a way I'm kind of glad you have opted to put it up for sale April... I know you're big on freestuff, but when you're working this hard, you deserve to get something back from it! :) And doing it to help the 3-DArena is a great reason... I'm sure loads of people will probably want to buy it, I would've paid for it actually if I had known you were going to sell it, and you already said I could have it free... yes you did, look up there, too late you can't take it back ;p K-

Kiera ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2001 at 12:34 AM

This is awesome hair, April, for all the reasons mentioned above. I wish there was more curly hair available for Poser, particularly "historical" hair styles - for example, ringlets combined with a stylized updo, a la Civil War era.

3-DArena ( ) posted Mon, 17 December 2001 at 7:15 AM

Oh my! That hair is great and your offer is so, so .... so typically YOU! Thank you very much for the offer!

ok, i swear i'll package it up sometime this year. *g* i keep thinking of morphs and addons to it. :P the model and a basic texture will be a bandwidth costs contribution item at 3-darena for $5. i've also been getting bleary eyed with a set of textures which will sell separately for $5 to go towards my michael fund. ;) i have not put it in one package so you can shop around for a different texture if someone else would like to make some. i haven't forgotten you guys above that will get it free :)

Just wanted to give a public nod of thanks to the gang over at 3DArena. I purchased April's spiral hair last week and finally tried to install it this weekend. I found that the file was bad and sent a quick email off, not really expecting a reply before Monday, (if then concidering the holiday!). To my surprise I recieved an email today, with a new link. I've successfully d/l'ed the file and installed it. While I haven't really had the chance to use it yet it looks like a really great hair model, and the price is unbelievable! Thank you one and all at 3DArena and Silvermage Concepts! mike

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2001 at 6:46 AM

Yes it is wonderful, I was suppose to receive it for free from the sweet AprilYSH, but I couldn't wait for her return and it is for charity and the price is so low for such a fine fine product. Thank you again for your talents. Sharen

PilotHigh ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2001 at 10:53 AM

Did you just email the 'store' or someone in particular? The reason I ask is that I bought mine last Thursday but I didn't get the whole thing. The .sit for the textures got a 404 error and I couldn't get back to the page with the download links; said the data was lost and would not reload. I sent email to the 'store' Thursday and Friday but have yet to get a reply.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2001 at 4:29 PM

After I bought it, I was brought to a download area, a little box opened on the left, I clicked and downloaded it. Sharen I would definately email them again, or directly to AprilYSH here.

rasputina ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2001 at 6:29 PM

I decided that I couldn't wait either, and as it is for charity I thought why not as SAMS3D said. The hair looks fabulous, can't wait to try it;and it is nice that it contributes to the community.

Pilothigh, I simply hit reply to the invoice that was sent to me from the store adn added a couple of lines about my problem. Their reply was so prompt it caught me by surprise. Please do email them again, as I'm sure they will help. mike

Hi guys, I got back and then new year's celebration caught me up. I had to be the cook cos it was at my house. :) It went off really well and Happy New Years wishes to everyone here!!! I didn't package it up as sit so I was a bit surprised that it didn't work, cos I didn't know it existed! (I thought zip would do for both pc and mac sheepish grin) Thanks to LadySilverMage for considering making a sit download and the store support! :) She's quite a rocket! Anyway, I'm sending a call out to the people who I promised (Cin-, LaurieA, pokeydots, PookasCrayon, SergeantJack, Lyrra, Fyrene, nikita, Micheleh, nfredman) to send me an email or IM and give me an email address I can send the free download url to. Thanks for liking it :)
