Subject: Crashes

I am considering getting either Vue4 or Bryce, and am working with the demos of each of them until I make a decision which is best for me. I really like the interface of Vue4 over Bryce, but it crashes too much. Sometimes during loading of some of the scenes available from the freebie section here, and somethimes during rendering. I am using windows ME, and an Athlon 750. Is it crashing because there are elements that didn't come with the 30 day trial or is the windows version just unstable (or just the demo). It is not the OpenGL stuff (I tried turning that off, and it didn't help), and it will crash even if I start a scene from scratch (with no objects except mountains and sunsets and stuff) I really like the idea of using Vue, because my primary interest is in rendering scenes with poser 4 figures in them. Bryce can do this, but at the cost of a fair amount of time setting up the transparencies and whatnot. Just curious if someone has any suggestions to working with it to avoid these periodic crashes. Often they require rebooting the machine before I can get view to start again.

I first got Vue when I used Windows ME, the full version and the patches that are now out with it, works great, more than great, I'll tell you, it works well with Windows ME....I am not sure about the demo version but Vue 4.03 works great. Sharen

In short, the demo is less than it ought to be. it's kind of irresponsible on E-on's part, for that matter, but the demo is unstable, according to others. I don't know, though, as I never tried the demo, but this is what I've been told. Vue 4, with the latest patch, is VERY stable though, as far as I can tell, on all versions of Windows since 98. They really need to fix that demo, and I'm surprised that they haven't...

At least for me, Vue 4.03 is actually more stable than Windows ME:} Haven't had any crashes while running Vue.

I running my PC with Windows ME and played a long time with the demo of Vue4. I had so many crashes... Now, 'cause I trust E-On, I've purchased the Vue4, installed the 4.03 patch, created a scene, and it's still calculating (120 hours rendering estimated time !!! there is more than 250 lights). I still have no problem...

I have Windows XP, but Vue 4.03 is like a rock on my machine. I have Bryce 5 too and Vue seems to be able to have much larger scenes (IOW, objects) than what Bryce 5 can. And with the volumentrics in both now, there is little difference in the rendered output, except for the fact that Vue has better plants and renders much faster. And then there is the poser import thing. I JUST LOVE THAT!! ;o) Laurie

Yeah, the "Poser import thing" is a biggie, no doubt. :)

I have win Me and Vue 4 demo, and never had problems with... Probably other parameters are causing crashes... Yves

I have experienced crashes in Vue when I had the OpenGL feature enabled. With OpenGL turned off, it works very smooth. I suppose they have some problems with certain video cards.
