Subject: ? render minus background color????

Anyone know how to render a movie without the background. I was recently rendering a helicopter with transparent windows and the presence of the background color was ruining my ability to composite the helicopter into the scene in after effects. Also can anyone tell me how to render a movie WITH the shadow as part of the final image? Thanks in advance.

I'm goin to jump in on this one as well. Is it possible to render to a transparent background? So that whin Imported into photoshop or PSP it's easier to work with.

I think the only way in both animation and stills is to render in .tif or .psd to get the alpha channel. Then cut out the background (or move the scene) using your photo editor. For animations, under "Make Movie," select Image Files under Sequence Type. You'll get a series of .tif files with alpha channels that you can edit in Image Ready or a like program.

Jackson is right.Save your image as *.tif. load the image in psp or another.open your alpha-channel and use it as a mask.the alphachannel is in the tiffile included

...but...but... .TIF with Alpha still won't work for his semi-transparent helicopter windows...

Maybe you need to work in the opposite direction: build the background first and import it into the Poser file. Thats what I usually have to do. It means more planning, but it still works.

Thanks for the info. I honestly thought that there would be a setting within poser to handle this sort of thing. I am surprised that this is so complex. Can anyone address how to render the shadow along with a character in an animation?

(ok, repetitive I know, but I just fancy this silly shot, and folks keep asking!) Though tricky, you can do a pseudo "Blue-Screen" or chromakey type render, but you will still have to create and clean up the mattes by hand in another app. Not *too* bad if using AfterEffects or somesuch.
