I've never had very good luck with making 100% photorealistic textures... my last one was a combination of photorealistic and hand painted. I have the best luck with hand painted, though hand painted textures aren't what most people want these days... I personally prefer them for the type of imagery I make... I know a lot of people have said that Cake1's tutorial is one of the better ones out there... and it's actually the only one on making a photorealistic texture that I know of off the top of my head. I have read that one, and it is good, but I was actually more interested in painting them by hand myself my Alsatian-Malamute cross puppy was a little indelicate in removing my camera from its case, which he wanted to chew. If you've ever seen the dentition on either breed, you can guess that the camera emerged a little the worse for the experience. :)

thip, Thanks for posting the note about Lab Report. This issue has a great range of features and stories, and is well worht checking out. The piece by Syyd, audre, and Grover is a really useful step by step guide to the creation of heigh resolution texturees, and it's one of many really good solid pieces for the Poser user community. Don't forget to check it out- Steve CooperHi Kelley Its more for learning. I have three projects running: a pale man'e texture (Mike), a very dark one that still shows detail without extreme lighting effects (Also Mike, though may use Dork) and one on fire (P4 girl), but what I really want to do is get to grips with painting them myself. It's something I enjoy doing, but I'm finding my techniques are just not doing what I want them to do and was hoping to learn a few of someone else's, and to learn to do more realistic stuff. Creating distinctive characters with their own maps is something I've only just begun to do, and I'm looking to read up as much as I can. I'm just being a tutorial parasite-- looking to learn as much as I can from other people's experience! LOL! Call me the Tutorial Tapeworm!
Strangechilde, The folks who make the fx&design series have one for making textures for 3d prohrams that's fairly good. Covers plants, animals and machines. Mostly photoshop and max/lightwave. But the texture concepts carry over to most any 3d program, although poser has limitations compared to some of the'bigger' packages. I read many 'regular' pshop tutorials, especially anything related to pattern/texture making and interface design. This is my fave pshop tutorial linksite - that should keep you busy for a while. http://psworkshop.net/ I tend to 'paint' most of my textures. Either in pshop, by using many of its lovely filters, or by hand and scanning in. The most common mistake I see in beginner poser clothing textures is not paying attention to the scale of the pattern. You hardly ever see a lace or flower print in RL where the flower is larger than her head. Good luck! Lyrra

I've perused the ones on this site, but haven't found quite the advice I need to stop making rubbish textures. Do any of you know of a good one or two or three or several? I use Photoshop but I could probably benefit from stuff written for other programs. Thanks! And happy holidays, late for some of you I know, but happy anyway!
