I am playing with the cartoon settings in poser 4 to see how I can make cartoon characters. This is Harry Bear, He is part of a comic series Im writing. Content is adult humor.

Are you doing this in the sketch style window or just the display? The hair was post production? It looks great! I wish the cartoon settings would account for a texture map. I have textured fish that I want rendered for a flash animation but I can't get their textures to render in flash..any ideas?

Never Give Up!

Render your fish with texture then take it into paint shop pro, If you reduce the colors of the image to 16 colors you should get a cartoon fish. Im still experimenting with body hair, Im not too happy with the line effect I used, What I might do is print out a sample of the image and then draw the body hair on then reduce the color to black and white and paste it on to the image using an alpha channel. Here is a trick, get your characters color correct the way you want it, In cartoon lines mode in poser, instead of rendering hit antialias it is right under render. This will sharpen your cartoon character. I got the idea for the cartoon style from looking at Barney rubble from the flintstones.

It looks great! I have seen some impressive cartoon renders using the sketch style render. I want to render cartoon animation for flash from poser and still I don't see a way to do it with textures on unless I export a quicktime movie and import it into Flash as a quicktime...keeping the colors down is important, 16 is a good number, even less. maybe you can find a prop to use for hair that will look symbolic enough... a rug for the thug's chest or something.

Never Give Up!

My god, Mouse, he looks like Harry Chess (and if you dont remember or know who that is, youll have to be properly educated)! My entire sordid youth on Folsom Street came flooding back with that image! =)

Here he is with his bud larry, And this is not Harry Chess, I invented this guy myself. If he looks alot like another cartoon it is accidental.

I would like to take a look at Harry Chess can you post a pic or post a url to a website that shows a image of him, I am curious to see how similar My harry is to that Harry. I may have to change the name now.

Here is the rendering before the black and white conversion.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Tue, 01 January 2002 at 2:18 AM

No, no, I didnt mean you were stealing the image of Harry. Ive done similar renders using this technique and know its yours. But the resemblance is amazing; if it were a little more sketchy, itd look like the work of that German cartoonist Rolf Konig, whose men look a lot like this as well.

LittleMouseOnaHonda ( ) posted Tue, 01 January 2002 at 2:30 AM

Well dennis the menace has eyes like that ans so does barny rubble, some stuffed teddy bears do too. I did a search for Rolf Konig only found his HIV research page.

Can you post some of your work I would love to see it:)

I havent quite gotten the knack for the cartoon render yet, although its something Im working on for a possible future project. But I have a couple of poser items in my gallery that demonstrate where Im headed with this program.

Yep your right He and I have completely different style, But it kind of reminds me of mad magazine or cracked magazine type cartooning. I like my style better.
