Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 12:36 pm)
I'm getting this same error, but with every single thing I export out of Poser. I've tried exporting items one at a time, removing hair, converting using Grouper (recommended in another thread here) and trueSpace, all to no avail. I cannot import any Poser exported model into Bryce 5. I can import anything else, as long as it is not a Poser export. Before, this was a periodic problem and reinstalling Poser, the patch, Pro Pack, and the patch would stop the problem for a while. On Monday, I upgraded to WinXP and now, even reinstalling Poser or Bryce 5 does no good. In chat the other night at the Delphi Bryce Forum, someone mentioned that they were able to import the models into Bryce 4, save them as a file or as an obp, and then import it into Bryce 5. I just tried this and B4 came up with the same error. I am at a loss on this. darlisa
I gave up on Bryce completly. I do all my render work in poser. I just render each object seperatly and than combine it all in PhotoShop. I have the same problem you two talking about, but I have another problem: when I exportan OBJ to Bryce, usually a dialog opens and asks for the textures locations, when I finish locating the files, I get the Windows error and bryce closes.I tried to get back to version 4, but it happened also. :(
I have Bryce 5, without the beta patch. Since it has not been officially released, I don't trust it. Besides, when I tried to apply it, it said that it couldn't find a legal English retail version. I also have Poser 4 Pro Pack with the Service Pack 3 patch. I don't have a problem with textures or any non-Poser obj. I can't render much in Poser since my computer can't handle more than one or two characters at a time and that is a real pain to composite everything together. Besides, I'm a Brycaholic and wouldn't have Poser if it weren't for Bryce. I'd rather do all my rendering in Bryce. -darlisa
I have the same problems importing obj files into Bryce that have certain props attached. I have used a method that, while adding some time to the process of sending a figure to Bryce, has worked every time I've used it. First, you need to download UVMapper, which you should be able to find in the free stuff. Import your obj file into that after you export it from Poser. Once the object is imported/opened into UVMapper, just save over the original obj file using the default save settings. This usually takes a minute or two on my computer. Next, you need the free program Grouper, which I think you can find in the free stuff section or through a search on google.com Open the object into grouper now, and convert it. You'll need to rename the .MAT file from the original obj file so that it has a "g" at the end so it matches the new grouper file name. Import the file Grouper into Bryce, and it should prompt you for texture locations, and all should work fine. This process has worked for me on WindowsXP, using Poser Pro Pack SR3, w/ Bryce 5. If you need clarification on any of these instructions, let me know, and I'll be happy to try to make it more understandable. -Zero

With some objects when I export them out of poser and into Bryce it gives me the error "A file error has occurred (i/o, bad media)." This happens with the same objects everytime, so it isn't a random error. For example, a prop I made in Rhino, turned into a .pp2 file in poser, and exported back out of poser causes this error. If I import the .obj that I exported out of Rhino it works, but not the one from poser. It's not just the things I make either. One time it was a staff from the staff pak. Also, not all of the props I make cause this error. If anyone knows anything please share! Thanks
