hi everybody!

newbie here! in fact, haven't even got bryce yet, but its
on the way. are there any good books on bryce 5? i looked
at the faqs here and surfed amazon. amazon had nothing
that i could find specifically on bryce 5. is 5 a major upgrade from 4?

thanks, miker

I'm sure there are good bryce books, though I'm fairly new at this too. http://www.brycetech.com/ has great tutorials and reading all the archives here you can learn alot. I feel like a kid in a candy store. Have fun and hope to see some of your stuff soon.

No it's not a major upgrade so mostly any book for 4 will do just fine. The only new stuff really is the tree lab and metaballs and a few improvements on the sky lab and lights.

thanks, whether the 4 books would work for 5 was what i was wondering, although i didn't come out and say it... there were a couple bryce books for version 4. and i can't believe the price for bryce! i'm gonna get it for $89 academic pricing. i won't be able to sell anything i make but that wasn't my intention anyway... i wanna have fun! thanks again, miker

Tons of tuts out there, in fact, you'll find a cult following of Bryce from version 1. Many of the early tuts are of great value. You'll get a user manual with your order, read that. Susan Kitchens Real World Bryce 4 at amazon is great. B5 is not a major upgrade. Learn B4 and master it and you can use ALL you learn in B5. B5 adds some features, and simplifies others, but its not a big difference. In fact, B3 is not all that different. Best wishes, hang out here, read the tuts.

Charles River media has a Bryce 5 book out, you can get more details at http://www.charlesriver.com/titles/bryce5.html However, the book is written by Shamms Mortier. I would suggest checking out some reviews on Amazon before buying any books by this author. I do not want to turn this into a flame post against this man, but let's just say, just because someone publishes someones books doesn't make him/her a great author. You might want to try to grab a copy of Real World Bryce 4, by Susan Kitchens. Susan's books are a pleasure to read, and an excellent reference. Most everything in RWB4 still applies to 5, you just won't have any sections on the tree lab or metaballs or any of the new render options. The book lists at $54.99, but check around and you'll probably find it much cheaper online (www.bookpool.com has it in stock and priced at $35.95). Unfortunately, Susan has stated she wouldn't be doing a Bryce 5 book... :(

I gotta second that. I knew nothing about Bryce at all, I bought a copy of 'Real World Bryce 4' and havent looked back since. Deffinately money well spent. What the book doesnt cover (Tree Lab & Metaballs) there are loads of tutorials online for.

thahks everybody, i saw the real world bryce book yesterday at border's bookstore, and i wanted it bad. but i wanted to know what all you folks had to say so i held off. i'm glad i did. i ordered it from amazon and saved about $20. i looked at the shamms book... i think it was "advanced bryce" or something like that, but the reviews said it used a lot of other expensive software and plug-ins, so i bailed on that. thanks, zspider
