How do you make your BVH files? In Poser or by some other means? I, for one, would like dancing... go-go style. Does anyone remember the Metacreations Dance Studio? Poser should have a dance studio to go along with it's walk designer.

I haven't done this for months. It's pretty easy to make some silly animations and save them as BVH or regular Windows Media files. I'm just going to give a very elementary description here. 1.) Load your character into the document window. 2.) Go to Pose Library, Animation Sets. 3.) Click on an icon 4.) Go down below the document window and click on that little dial to bring up the "VCR Controls." Take it from there. Obviously you can do more complex animations. But I do believe Poser is not as good as other packages for the same things. I must confess the BVH file at the beginning of this thread pretty much reminded me of what I can do with animated gif's.

Oop... shoulda phrased that correctly. I just wanted to know what program Wolfie uses. I can see how that may look like I was looking for help. Good to see such a helpful sort as yourself, Ron. Thanks for leaping to my rescue, even if I didn't need the rescuing. :)

Hey, you can't blame a Knight for trying?! (Get it, my last name is Knights, grin).

A full out run for the raptor!

elektra ( ) posted Wed, 09 January 2002 at 5:17 PM

I am thinking martial arts as well, but more liked coreographed fights. A series of kicks, punches and blocks. Maybe some with weapons? For ideas, check out some of the fight scenes in Buffy. :-) Thanks for taking requests.

Brushing hair or painting toenails etc. would be nice. Bathing. Maybe some yoga? Dancing was my first pick too.

Considering there are a few BHV questions about martial arts did any one try my sparring BHV I have in the free stuff at my webpage. Did any one like it?

Getiing into/out of a car, getting on/off a motor/bicycle, sitting down/getting up from a chair, bending over to pick up an object or to pet a small animal, jumping up off the ground and landing (could be used for start and end of a flying animation).

How about some backward walks, i.e., as women do when paartner dancing, i.e., ballroom dances? They do all men do, you know, while wearing a dress and high heels, and backwards, of course, to paraphrase a certain Ginger Rogers.

Deimos ( ) posted Wed, 09 January 2002 at 7:52 PM

Hi Larry, I think we have sent IM's back and forth actually Me and Angharhad had intended to do some ballrooom dancing BHV's but I am not that good and only could do the certain steps. I tend to intermix the differnt dances it is Angharhad who is good at Ballroom dancing, she actually intended to do some Ballroom Dancing and Belly dancing BHV's as she has studdied both. However she is busy between Working on The Realm, her Job, and University.

Hey Deimos, Yes, my wife and I are (former) hard-core ballroomers -- 17 years -- 3/4 times a week; I put "former" because we got involved with Argentine tango a few years ago and I have to tell you it's like a $#%)(+ drug! Now it's 5 to 6 nights a week, between the private lessons, practicas, the milongas and the looking for milongas (tango dance parties). We live now in Sacramento but find ourselves going back to San Francisco more and more because of this. I've been making some poses and illustrations - will put up a couple in a day or so - but what I want to do is make some short - 10 to 15 seconds - anims. I found that in the Walk Designer (why do they capitalize that?) it is possible to make a variety of different walking styles for the tangueros and even the tangueras, except with no backward option I could only figure that I need generate the walks then for the women to match the men (manually?)REVERSE THE ORDER of frames, i.e., 1-100 switch 100 to 1. YOWTCH!! Probably a script exists for doing this or could be easily written, just not by yours truly. Don't know if there actually already are BVH files for this particular subject -- there maybe -- but not able to find any looking around the web. By the bye, "intermixing different dances" is not a no-no. Funny, when (new)people do it on the floor, they're called "newbies", but when practiced, better dancers do it, it's called "brilliant Yowie Wowie Howd theydo that!?!" Go figure.

Valandar ( ) posted Wed, 09 January 2002 at 8:42 PM

Again, Deimos, may I have a link? 8-D And how do you use BVH files with Poser? Is there an option under "Import" ?

Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 09 January 2002 at 9:27 PM

Valandar:

Yes, there's an option called "BVH motion" in the File/Import menu.

When importing a Biovision .bvh file, Poser will ask whether the arms are aligned along the X-axis or Z-axis. It'll also ask whether you want to scale the animation to match the existing figure (highly recommended). It's important to make sure the animation is designed for that particular figure, because if the bones don't match up, the results can be rather amusing.

Oh! I put in my vote for Yoga as well. (that or two people playing Hungry Hunrgy Hippos)

timoteo1 ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 2:21 AM

Two categories for me: 1) Action stuff (no more kicking, punching) ... military movements (crawls, commands, runs with rifles, diving, shooting, etc., etc.) 2) AMBIENT motions ... stretching, reading the paper, waiting at a bus-stop, etc. Moves that are LONG and slow without a whole lot of motion. My 1/2 a cent. -Tim
