I own Bryce and am consitering purchasing Vue. Does anyone have experiance with both these softwares? Does Vue have features that make it worth owning if I already have Bryce?

Well, yeah, Vue has certain things over Bryce, IMO. Such as the Solid Growth which is E-on Software's method of plant and tree creation. The plants and trees are not models, but rather varying algorithms. That means that if you "grow" say a maple tree for example, and then another one, the 2 will be different. Sometimes alot different, but still recognizable. That and Vue renders faster, and I, and alot of other people here, think the editors for skies, materials, terrains, etc are far more intuitive and easier to use than Bryce's. Also, if you're into Poser, Vue 4 will import Poser scene files, .pz3 and/or .pzz, meaning you don't have to apply textures or trans maps once imported, because they load with the models. Oh, and the 4 viewports in Vue 4, plus it also has a trackball. And of course, Corel doesn't own Vue. ;) It's all a matter of opinion, really. My own personal opinion, as someone who has Vue 3, Vue 4, AND Bryce 4, is that Vue 4 is by far much better in all respects. Like I said, that's just my opinion. it just so happens to be the opinion of thousands of others, too. :) Check the link. You can download a demo of Vue 4 and try it yourself. PC only for the demo (I think), but the Mac version of Vue 4 was just released.

For me......the only reason I purchased Vue over Bryce5, was it supposedly was compatible with Poser. Well, I have to say, that thru much "heartburn" it has finally worked with Poser, and I now can't live without it. It, still does things that totally baffle me...........but all in all, I just love it, and if it took buying another computer to make it work with Poser.........I suppose.....I would do it. I have not found any two programs that totally entrigue me as these two.........and them working together........is...more than I could ever think possible. (: genny

I have at least 3 big prefeences for Vue over Bryce : - Much better material editor in Vue (at least, one that makes more sense to the way my brain works :)). - Traditional 4 related views, much better for preceise positioning (I can't work with only one view at a time). - Near perfect integration with Poser. You can also import poser objects in Bryce, but you have to jump through a lot more hoops to do that.

I'm only a newbee in 3Dland. Can use my boss his Vue. Vue is not for sale in the stores here , Bryce is. If , I had all the money in the world to buy the programm I wish, It would not be bryce. Look at the results in the Galleries. Vue is real its alive, And bryce looks always a bit "plastic" to me. Greetings Myske

WEll, it's really good to have both cause each has a certain look and there are some things that each has that the other doesn't.... Bryce 5: Great trees althogh they definitely need to be tweaked and can become very original... Also these trees can look extremely realistic with the right textures... Vue: Great vegetation crack out of the box, great trees, but you can't tweak the trees like in Bryce... Bryce 5: Very easy to get weird skies, hard to get really good realistic skies, but definitely skies are nice, not great... Vue: Great skies right out of the box Bryce 5: Amazing material editor, you can do some fantastic work with it... Unfortunately, it's also very hard to get a handle on how to work it... Vue: Great material editor and creator, very easy to understand, learning curve is much lower than Bryce's Bryce 5: handles alpha planes really well... Vue: sometimes can have problems with opacity of alpha planes... Bryce 5: There are far more resources for Bryce than Vue on the web and there are far more great materials freely available for Vue.. Vue: Doesn't have that many resources on the web, as a result, less free stuff for it... Bryce 5: Up to Bryce 4, susan Kitchens has provided super excellent documentation for Bryce... Vue: Here Vue is lacking... We need more printed materials on Vue Bryce 5: Manuevering the camera can be a bit tricky sometimes... Vue: Manuevering the camera is real easy... So, I wouldn't say one is better than the other, I'm happy with both, there are some things I would definitely use Bryce for, largely becuase Bryce has a certain look... I'm real happy with both... My advice is: get Vue 4, you won't be sorry...

I switched from Bryce to Vue, and never looked back. Sharen

Greetings. I've been out of the online community for a while and just popped in for a moment when I saw this post. And so I will offer my ho. Bryce and Vue are 'different', in the way they work, in their final output and in many other respects. They are both good at what they do. But they are just tools. Whether one is better than the other depends upon what YOU, the visionary needs to convey your image. I use both for different things. I especially love combining the two....Vue for backgrounds and Bryce for foregrounds. You can composite, of course, or put your Vue scene on a symmetrical lattice in Bryce. Either way, you can bend them to your will. I love my Bryce....but I wouldn't trade Vue for the world. Yours......Monsoon

I think that Vue is lot easier to use, to learn, and to create. Mainly because the World Browser in Vue makes object manipulation so much simplier, and the Material Editor is very straight forward.

Just a line and to skip aoo the details because Vue need no introduction by now :)....."if you have Bryce, Vue is a Must Must Must Must Must Must Must Must Must Must Must Must Must have!" ;-) looks like my MUST keys are all jam!...LOL!

Here's a link to our Annex comparison archives...many threads comparing Vue and Bryce, various versions. Plus comparisons of Vue to some other 3D apps. If you want the *full* story, you can get it through all these threads, just follow the link. :)

Hi, I'm new in 3Dland too, but had Bryce 3 then got 4 and pondered Bryce 5 or Vue 4? - I'd seen some of the images here in the Vue gallery and thought " I wanna do that". I also posted a question as to which to get - The advice (even from some Brycers) was weighed heavily (like, 99%) in favour of Vue. So got it and I have not been disappointed - it really is superb - but like I say I'm new to all this 3D stuff, so.................. IMO it's better and easier to do great 'stuff' with than Bryce4. You have to decide though - all this is just opinion. Tradivoro makes some very valid points above, but I'd do it all again . (I should say that I still use Bryce sometimes - and I've had Vue about 5 weeks!)

I like Vue (have only 2.1 free version :) ) but I don't know if I will buy Vue 4 due to lot of problems which were described here (I suppose it's the same for other programs). As I like photorealistic scenes, it's a shame that Vue 4 has not radiosity. The best for me should be an easy to use soft (like Vue) with radiosity feature. May I wait Vue5 ? Yves

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 11 January 2002 at 6:00 AM

I think it would be great if Vue 5 were to have radiosity. I have no idea if that will actually be the case, but we can always hope.
