Hello Everyone,

Still working on interiors. I find them really challenging. They're great learning exercises though, for moving, placing and sizing objects. Not that you don't have to do that with outdoor scenes.....

I love playing with light and shadows also. I placed a spotlight directly over the cantaloupe and apple because the cast shadows from the other lights in the room made way too many shadows, and everything got too busy.

Learning a little bit more with each scene.
Happy Weekend,
John :)

This image is very beautiful John. The light looks great and I recognice the great looking flowers from tucan :-). Just 3 small remarks I have if you don't mind : the apple has no shadow on the table and I think it is flying in the air. The asparagus is in a very dangerous situation. "Ping" with the little finger and it will fall down. One of the white flowers has the stem outside the pot. Maybe you can arrange that. The image is worth this little more work. :-)Guitta Guitta

I agree with Guitta about the apple and no shadow, but I found the rest of it very pleasing.

jgmart ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 10:05 AM

Thanks Guitta, The apple had a shadow under it but I couldn't get it soft enough, it looked to distracting. What I did was place a spotlight above it to remove the hard shadow. And the asparagus..... Every time I moved it further down onto the table, it seemed to go into the table... this was as close as I could get to just having it "sit" on the table. Thanks very much for your suggestions, I do appreciate them, John Also, I forgot to mention, the food and flowers are from Trillium36.

gebe ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 10:31 AM

Oh, I thought the flowers were from tucan, where they are free. They look exactly the same. To place the asparagus exactly where you want, you best can do the following : In the top view, grap it with your mouse and place it where you would like to have it on the table (no matter if it seems to go into the table wood). Then, in the side view window, bring it up largely OVER the table. Atleast click at the last icon on bottom left (drop object to ground) and it will fall exactly on the table :-) Guitta

Very nice work here, John! I love the lighting, very reminiscent of the old masters' work. :)

I re-rendered, following Guitta's suggestions (THANK YOU Guitta! :)

The apple has a more pleasing shadow now.

The asparagus was moved onto the table (I keep
fogetting about the "drop object" button.... works like a charm.

The HUGE (lol) flower stem had been removed.

I like this much better! Guitta, you are a great teacher! Thanks very much :)
John

Oh, is the Trillium food collection available in VOB now? I'll have to take a visit and see what's been changed over there. Food models are just so cool. :)

Varian ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 11:03 AM

LOL, we posted at the same time, John. Definitely the apple/shadow and the asparagus bunch look much better now, a very good improvement. You'll want to do anti-alias on this new version; it's a keeper. :D

gebe ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 11:10 AM

Looks nice now. Show us soon the antialias rendered image :-) Guitta

jgmart ( ) posted Sun, 13 January 2002 at 11:39 AM

Thanks Varian, Yes Trillium36 has both the food and botanical models specifically for Vue. They're awesome! I'll post the antialias image soon.... This scene took about 2 hours for the final render on a 1.7gig machine. Thanks again, John

Boy John, it really looks wonderful, I love indoor scenes too. Some of my favorite are Guitta's but I usually love all of Guitta's work. Good job anyway, I like the quietness of the picture. Sharen

Hey, this is a beautiful picture John.. You definitely have a knack for getting these intimate, ambient setting... The smoke particles in the air add a nice touch.. And the view outside the window is very cool too... Love the wall outlet too.. Never know when you gotta plug something in... :) Actually, i think what guitta was trying to say was that the daisy is coming through the wall of the flower pot... Or is there a crack in that pot??? In any event, kudos for another great pic.. :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone I truly appreciate all the help and support I get here! John :)

Boy, you folks all showed your true colors again in this thread. One of the reasons I like this forum so much, even though I spend a good portion of life just lurking. That was just great!

YL ( ) posted Tue, 15 January 2002 at 6:00 AM

Seems that the scene is too dark. Maybe try to add some lights (with very low power) to simulate "radiosity" ; I mean you could obtain this way less darkness. Yves
