Subject: MatApplier2 in freestuff?

Pinto ( ) posted Thu, 17 January 2002 at 11:09 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 12:30 AM

Has anyone played with the 10meg program in freestuff. It is such a much larger program than anything I've seen, and with a title like "test", it gives me pause. Pinto

mickey2 ( ) posted Thu, 17 January 2002 at 11:49 AM

I tried it and it said there was no Matapplier EXE. file to be found,I also tried the other free stuff mat applier and it just says "Error 0". I was told that I might have and old version of Directx, but when I updated that I still get no EXE file to be found, and Error 0 in the other program .It is at this pint that I might have to give up. And I could really use a program like those, GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Thanks mickey, it saves me a BIG donwnload. I'd also go for a solid MAT maker program. Pinto

Complete MAT/MOR production/management (mat, map, scaling, subdivision, joint, donor, combo, etc) is a small part of the 50+ Poser tools in CR2Edit. Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com for CR2Edit, ZenPaint, ZenTile, VueMaster and the complete line of Zenware graphics apps

Good point Ron, I knew that the link leads to the ordering info page, not a form, but no one else would. I changed it -- thanks! The whole CR2Edit site needs a revamp anyway, its way out of date, one of these days.... Hmmmm- I testted this for for virus and it seems clean, but MatApplier is definitely in the beta-test category. The installer gets the name wrong when it creates the Start Menu shortcut. You can run the program directly from the folder where it installed, 'C:my ProgramsMat Poser Applier' in my case. The actual exec file is MatApplierTest.exe, rather than MatApplier.exe that the Start menu wants. Here's a screen shot, kinda rough around the edges, but might be useful. Regards- Lemurtek

Lemurtek, Thanks a bunch! I guess the obvious question then is..does it create a reliable MAT file? Pinto

If you have pro-pack, you can use the script at my site. It creates MAT files without having to leave Poser. It also automatically creates a thumbnail.

I think the MatApplierTest program found in freestuff is just a test program for a marketplace item. If so, save is disabled so you can't acutally save MAT files unless you go buy the program...

Lemurtek ( ) posted Fri, 18 January 2002 at 3:31 AM

Gahhh! Looks like you're right. Wish I'd known that before I wasted time downloading it. Oh well, now I get the pleasure of deleting it with extreme predudice! Regards- Lemurtek

Search here in Renderosity freestuff for "MAT Pose Edit". It's free, it works nicely and it's a tiny download.

Mickey, do you mean Mat Pose Edit for the 'error 0' message? If so, did you try downloading and installing the visual basic 6 runtime files as suggested in the readme. That might be the problem - not sure. It runs fine for me. I'm running Windows 2000. 2000 was the first version where these were installed by default. Hope this helps. Mat Pose Edit is a nice program.

I guess I should have jumped in here when I uploaded my MAT Pose Applier "Test" version to the Free Stuff section. As some of you have discovered, the "Save MAT Pose" button is disabled, which is actually why it is labeled as the *TEST* version. The FULL version has been on sale in the Marketplace for a while now. I apologize for the "bad shortcut" issue and it will be fixed shortly (possibly by the time you read this). As for some of the comments: --"Has anyone played with the 10meg program in freestuff. It is such a much larger program than anything I've seen, and with a title like "test", it gives me pause." 1) This is the *TEST* version of my MAT Pose Applier program (version 2.2) for sale in the Marketplace. The large file size is due to the fact that this is the full "installer". 2) The word "test" means that it is an "evaluation" version not that it is a "beta-test" version. If you like the program, please purchase it at the Marketplace. --"I testted this for for virus and it seems clean, but MatApplier is definitely in the beta-test category." 1) Of course the program is virus-free! 2) Actually, the program has been on sale for a while now and it has been fully tested. Version 1 (and even Version 2.0 had their bugs and glitches, but this version, 2.2 has has fixed those issues.) In fact, the number of satisfied users is growing with every purchase. Can I ask what you mean by this comment? --"Here's a screen shot, kinda rough around the edges, but might be useful." And I'm not sure what this comment means- the screen shot (above) is only the "Basic" tab (where you can select and apply one texture for the entire figure). Have you clicked on the "Advanced Tab" screen to see the more detailed Materials Editor? Have you read the readme file? --"I guess the obvious question then is..does it create a reliable MAT file?" The obvious answer is, yes, the full version does create a "reliable MAT file". For example, I used my program to create the MAT Poses for the two Tron characters (available in my Free Stuff) and a number of other artists will be using it in both their free stuff and their Marketplace items. As for the comparison between my program and CR2Edit- my program is a full-fledged, MAT Pose-only program. CR2Edit is a full-fledges, CR2 editor/ MAT Pose/ etc. program. My program is $20.00 and upgrades/ updates are free. CR2Edit is $50.00 for a full version and $15.00 for updates (the last time I checked their website- the prices may have changed). I don't believe either program is a direct competitor with the other- they both do their own thing. And not to jump on top of anyone, but ALL of the information about the program can be found in the readme.txt file AND on the product's page in the Marketplace (the link can be also be found in the readme file). I apologize for the "short cut" issue, but please do not "trash" something if you haven't read the "manual" or have no idea how to use it. And as I look at the above-list of posters, I notice that **NO-ONE** (yes, *NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON*) sent me an e-mail (or an IM) asking questions about the program. I suppose this means that it is easier to complain about an item than it is to ask the artist/ creator for help. --John

  1. The word "test" means that it is an "evaluation" version not that it is a "beta-test" version. If you like the program, please purchase it at the Marketplace. Well, we can't read your mind. Why not label it 'evaluation' or better yet 'crippled-evaluation' to begin with? The operative word here is 'free stuff', people have an expectation, based on the name, 'Free' that items placed there are free, i.e. do not require purchase. I have few problems with using free stuff to distribute ancillary store items, as long as they're clearly marked, but if your 'free stuff' item is not free, and is not clearly marked as requiring purchase, then it is simply spam. >1) Of course the program is virus-free! >2) Actually, the program has been on sale for a while now and it has been fully tested. Version 1 (and even Version 2.0 had their bugs and glitches, but this version, 2.2 has fixed those issues.) In fact, the number of satisfied users is growing with every purchase. Can I ask what you mean by this comment? I don't frequent the marketplace, and so was unaware of previous versions. There is no 'of course it's virus free' in todays world when downloading executable files. I check everything I download, including commercial programs. The only reason I mentioned it was because your program didn't install correctly and would not run... which might be worrisome for some people. My beta-test comments were based on 1> the installer not working, and 2> the interface, which based on almost every other windows program I use, looks a little odd. I think it's the blue 'shadows' which are visually distracting and give the program a cluttered look, that threw me off. >The obvious answer is, yes, the full version does create a "reliable MAT file". For example, I used my program to create the MAT Poses for the two Tron characters (available in my Free Stuff) and a number of other artists will be using it in both their free stuff and their Marketplace items. Ok, while it may be obvious to you, it is NOT obvious - at all - to anyone who downloads it from Free stuff, because you can't save the MAT file, you can't tell if it works or not until you buy it. Since we can't test the MAT files your program produces, we have to take your word for it, and if we have to take your word for it anyway, we may as well skip the 10 MB download. Not that it would have made any difference in my opinion or posts, but yes, I should have contacted you, and apologize for that lapse. All this could have been avoided by simply stating up front that the program was a cripple-ware evaluation for a commercial product. Now maybe I missed your post in the Poser forum stating this, and if so I apologize, if I had seen that I would never have downloaded it, and wouldn't have posted on the subject. Regards- Lemurtek

Oy vey! Only honesty compels me to jump in here briefly. Without predjudice to anyone's software: The Free, < 100KB "MAT Pose Edit" indeed works well minus one small glitch I just found. There are buttons to select all head and select all body materials for Vicky/Mike so you can apply a texture to them simultaneously. While editing a MAT file I noticed what I thought was an error in it. In short, I never snapped to the fact that Vicky's inner mouth, tongue and teeth are on the frigging body map, not the head - so much for logic and keen observation. At any rate MPE thinks like me and selects them with the head texture button. I wrote the author and hopefully this will be corrected within hours. Meanwhile, just deselect them or don't use the button. Otherwise, it seems to work fine. But of course, this is the opinion of someone who doesn't know Vicky's mouth from . . . Oh well, no wonder I never get laid.

JHoagland, Are you saying we should not be able to discuss items amoung ourselves because it might offend the item's creator?! There have been several MAT programs in free stuff lately, and several threads regarding them. Your item should have been clearly marked that it was only a promo for your Marketplace product. I for one, do not think that the free stuff area should be an additonal showroon for items for sale in the Marketplace. That is why one is called "Marketplace", and the other "FREE Stuff". Your item is not Free Stuff. Your item is a promo. I think Renderosity staff should address this issue. Intead of getting defensive and yelling,(NO-ONE (yes, NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON), you could have turned this situtation into a real selling opportunity. Everyone in this thread is obviously interested in a program of this type and if you had handled it differently you could have made a sale to each of us. I know your program would be on my system right now if you had just explained what happened in a nice manner. But based on your response, I don't care how good your program is or what it costs. I will not be using it. If you are going to produce commerical products you will do well to remember a wise old saleman's moto. "You can never win argument with a customer". Regards Pinto

To further clear things up- 1) I apologize if the title of the item wasn't clear. You are right- even though the readme file states that the "Save" button is disabled, the user would have to download the file first. 2) I believe that people should definitely talk about things in a public forum. But, people should also try to get their "complaints" handled by the artist/ creator beforehand. 3) At last count, the "Test" version had been downloaded over 980 times, yet I did not receive one e-mail asking why it was called a "test" version or why the file size was so large. And as for the comment, "I don't frequent the marketplace", that's too bad- there is a LOT of excellent stuff there. And when you purchase items from the Marketplace, you support the artist AND this site- Renderosity gets a percentage of all items sold, to maintain the very pages you are reading. And as for the comment, "You can never win argument with a customer"- that is very true and I agree with you. However, rather than trying to start an argument he can't win, the artist may decide to stop producing items (for sale and/ or for free). --John
