This is Jimmy Jurk, another of my Marlin's World characters. Jimmy is the clerk in a local convenience store. Jimmy is a bit burnt out because he indulges in drinking, drugs, wild habits, etc. Jimmy works at a convenience store because he has no real talent. Jimmy thinks he could have been a rock star if he ever had the right break. I think you get the idea. I've just started on Jimmy's head, and haven't touched his body yet. Do you think Jimmy's face pretty much conveys the mental image I present? Is he funny? Is he scarey? Are his eyes too puffy? What do you think, from an initial look at Jimmy's face?!

VirtualSite ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2002 at 12:31 PM

Hes certainly... well, yeah, scarey. Id think twice about showing him a phony ID just to buy cigarettes. Id only suggest making the face a little thinner, a little more drawn. Hes a bit too buff.

Well , ron, somehow im glad not to live in Marlins world:-))

pokeydots ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2002 at 12:47 PM

Ron He looks great, but I think he needs to be a little thinner also :)

Yes, I think you're right. Perhaps I should make the face and nose thinner at least. Should I alter anything like the eyes, or mouth? He isn't really too scarey is he? He is capable of being scarey because he is moody. Too many drugs and not enough sleep. But this is a comedy/comic strip, and I can't be scaring the audience! I think you've given me an idea that the body should be thin as well. I don't want him emaciated, but he shouldn't be fat or buff. Thanks for the feedback. Ron

Ok, I fiddled about a bit with the morph dials. This gets kind of confusing. I had some weird experiences with his mouth, so he's not smiling till I figure that out. See how you like this. I want to do something with his teeth. They can't be perfect. Let's see what options I have. Thanks for the input, and cinnamon: I'm glad you liked the tutorials. Maybe someday I'll actually know what I'm doing here?! By the way, I'll be numbering each new picture of Jimmy to make things easier if you want to identify them or keep track. Ron

I fiddled some more with the mouth and teeth. Do you think he looks too silly with a missing tooth? I'm using the default Poser lighting, so this one looks a bit dark.

Strangechilde ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2002 at 2:31 PM

I like the last posting best, but I think the lips are too thin. Sucking in the cheeks was good. Maybe a slight slant to the eyes to make him look a it more scurrilous? How about ever-so-slightly crossed eyes? He's a great character! My first thought when the first image loaded was "Oh, gross!" He certainly conveys disreputableness.

jaybutton ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2002 at 2:43 PM

He looks great! I started laughing so loud, my coworker leaned over and said, "He looks like Fabio's challenged brother"! :P Jay P.S. I am on a break, I'm not reading the Poser forum while I'm supposed to be working! :P

Ron, You're scarin' me. If I saw this guy in a convienence store, I'd just come back later.

file_261758.jpg

So Jimmy is getting some favorable reactions. PabloS, I sincerely hope we're not really scaring you. I've listened to some suggestions, and fiddled with his eyes. You'll notice they're a bit off-center. I made his lips fuller, but to tell you the truth, I think thin lips go better with this type of character. (I have thin lips and a small mouth. But I also have a beard and moustache!) What do you think?!

cinnamon ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2002 at 3:12 PM

me like! it looks better than chipped! my dad said people who do drugs have bad teeth and they r falling out. can u make him have one of those moles on his cheek or his neck with a whisker hair sticking out of it? ewwww i dont think i would go back to dat store if i saw him.

ronknights ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2002 at 3:33 PM

file_261760.jpg

Thanks again. I didn't see a chipped tooth morph.. just "bad teeth, separated teeth, etc.". Hmm, the moles would likely require a different texture. I may try to use a different free texture if I can find it. Here is the latest version. I think his cheeks look a bit more sunken. His hair is changed so it doesn't appear to be growing into his shoulder. His ears are normal size now so they don't stuck out of the hair weirdly. By the way, I am using the DAZ Wonder Wedge Expansion Kit. I can easily make changes to the hair. Jimmy will have his bad hair days! Ron

My first reaction on seeing Jimmy was: ex-surfer-dude. Give him a tan.

ronknights ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2002 at 8:57 PM

Now I need to find a different texture for Jimmy. Any ideas of a good one? Geep, let me tell you how easy all of this is to do. Just load Mike. Then start fiddling with the morph dials. Heck most of the time I don't even understand the descriptions of the dials. But I keep moving some, then seeing the result. Many morph dials have two settings: "0" (meaning that the morph is turned off), or "1" (you choose to turn on that morph). An example would be "big nose." "0" (zero) means he does not have a big nose. "1" means you just gave him a big nose. I've worked the better part of the day on Jimmy Jurk, and have not even touched his body. I wanted to put this much work on the head, because I feel the head or face are sometimes neglected more than the body. Thanks again friends, for your assistance and comments. Ron

Ron These are all great! lol And I think thin lips ( at least his top lip) would look better. Can't wait to see them all together :)

Thanks again folks. I just consulted my original comic circa 1990, and I am crestfallen to admit that Jill's last name should be Chill. Jill Chill: She's a Pill, She runs the till, I love her still. I had one of my old teachers represented as well. This was an old battleaxe who sharpened pencils with butcher knives. (True story). Is anyone old enough to have used those huge thick black pencils in school? I forget the teacher's name. Oh, my Dad will also make an appearance. Dad is a semi-retired minister who always has some words of wisdom. He doesn't really understand me (err, Marlin!)

Ron I went to Catholic schools, so we had nuns! They always carried wooden rulers to smack your hands if you did something bad!

Pokeydots, I am a minister's son and husband. (I got it right this time.) So in my case, I didn't go to catholic schools. However I had teachers like the one you described. I also had a principal who had lost his hand and part of an arm due to a hunting accident. He scared us to death. Then he had the biggest paddle with holes in it so it would hurt more. Oh, one teacher had a husband who was a patient in the state hospital where my Dad was the chaplain. This lady gave a Baptist Hell and Damnation sermon every class day.. She just about drove me out of school. I think I'll put her into Marlin's World. By the way, here is the last rendition of Jimmy for the day. I may be giving Jimmy a darker skin texture (tanned ex-surfer image). I just need to check with a special friend first. Ron

OK, today was really fun. I love working with my friends. Jimmy is not done yet. I/we still need to work on his body. Here is a start. The idea is to show someone who might have been in good shape once, and still has some muscle now... But he's far from "body builder material." I used the new "truss" from Runtime DNA. I think it adds to the humor of this image. I'm not sure how much will be done over the weekend. That's a time when I usually spend more quality time with my wife. If you have no objections, I'd like to work with you all again, here! Thanks again for all your support. Ron

Here is another render of Jimmy. He's having a ball in his firelit living room, playing his air guitar. The music is loud and the neighbors called the cops. You can see this in my gallery too, hint hint. Ron

If you ever get tired of the Union Jack (unthinkable!), ronstuff has four textures for PhilC's boxer-briefs here in Free Stuff. They're a bit plain, though. Jimmy strikes me as the sort to wear something bolder. Red hearts, perhaps. Or tiger stripes.

OK you inspired me. I woke up in the middle of the night, and fiddled. This is the ronstuff tshirt texture and boxer texture. Jimmy is in the Poserworld bathroom. I guess Jimmy heard the "Call to Nature," then "something went bump in the night?!"
