Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 01 6:51 am)
How hefty a load can your machine handle in the way of hair, when you also consider adding in a character, that character's clothing, a few other props perhaps, then maybe a second character and their clothing? The thing on building hair like that, is it will be HUGE in system resource requirements. Otherwise, sure, it can be built, no problem ;) I think though, you will find that most of us hair makers cannot afford to waste time on hair that only those customers with 1 gig of Ram can use, instead of making hair that more people can use, and thus making a larger market for ourselves. That hair though, would be rather easy to make, as would most of the various curly styles. In the end it is all a matter of system resources, and what sort of machines our average customer has. Right now, to pull off UltraSalon II, I am already pushing the limits hard there... and many people with only a small amount of Ram will not be able to effectively use it :(
Okay, this is going to sound like a dumb comment maybe, but I know nothing about nothing when it comes to modeling - hair in particular! But, here is a question/observation: Back in the good old plastic hair days :o) of Poser folks used to get hair styles like this using Cosmos and a square prop. That was basically a texture pasted on a square. Only good from certain angles, hence the prob. Now looking at this hairdo it occurs to me that the style is sort of bell shaped, so I got to wonder...what if someone were to model a bell shape prop to put over the head and then uvmapped it so that a texture of this hair style could be used? A few morphs around the bottom could probably be added to pose the hair to some degree, such as fluff it out, or maybe draw it back behind the shoulders, etc. Now, when you get up off the floor laughing at my comments, someone let me know why this is not doable? Or if it is, who is going to volunteer - as I too would love to have that hairstyle. Rob
I don't think your comments are dumb at all shadownet. I think it really would be a simple bell prop with a few morphs for those waves. This is wavy hair. Not curly hair.
As I understand it...Vairesh has been modeling his hair in such a way that the highlights are actually a seperate layer. I think with a good texture map and transmap (I think I could pull it off) and a seperate layer for higlights....it is most definitely doable. As a matter of fact...his Julia hair is already really close to what I am wanting, but I don't really want it to have all those seperate strands and it doesn't have that sperate highlight layer I don't think.
Mehndi....I don't have loads of RAM, but I have plenty of more complicated hair styles than this one would be that work just fine. I don't know much about modeling....but I don't see how any model of this hair would be too much for my system. :o Unless the modeller adds way too high of a polygon (or whatever the hell it's called) count.
Cin-....yah...I have it. It ain't what I want either. LOL! ;o)
I think we are all thinking of different definitions for making hair like the above. When I model hair, I tend more to model large locks/clumps, each individually, with a high enough resolution that they have smooth curves, and also can take morphs, etc. Now if one just wished to map some curly texture onto a low resolution one trick horse hair, meaning it won't move alot, cannot take alot of fancy morphs, and the ones it does have tend to possibly distort it and it's map, sure one could probably do hair that is a faked curly hair. And alot of what I am saying is also based on theory too, since I have been giving alot of thought to exactly how to do good versatile curly hair for an upcoming edition of UltraSalon in the future... and the pitfalls of trying it, the areas I need to spend R&D in, etc.
Actually, if you did a sort of cross between the curly hair and the flip hair with only three or four moveable strands, it might work fairly well. A couple strands in the front to pull back behind the ear, a couple in the middle/back to pull forward could work fairly well. If I were any good at modeling, I'd give it a shot. This sort of style is one that doesn't look too good pulled back anyway, it's meant to frame the face.
I didn't post this message for a debate on hair modeling.
I would like to have hair like this. That's all.
If anyone feels it would be a waste of thier time....then don't model it. If you can't model it without too high a poly count...then don't model it. If you can model it...then please do...because I know that I am not the only one who would want it and be willing to pay for it.
Now...I believe the hair can be modeled. Like I said Vairesh has already gotten really close with his Julia hair. So it can be done without a system crushing poly count. None of Vairesh's models cause even the slightest problem with my system...and they are among some of the best and most versatile hair models I have. If he can do the hair he has done do far....I find it really hard to believe that this simple little hairstyle would be that friggin hard to pull off. :o
Dark Whisper's G.I.F. hair wouldn't be a bad match.
It isn't quite as full, and it's straight rather than wavy, but you could fix that last bit with the wave deformer. Remember what William the Bloody did with the wave deformer a few weeks ago?
I would like to have hair like that too .. oh, you mean for Poser?? I want it for me :-) Mine is just too thick and heavy to hold a wave... I think that is Vicky and Posette's problem too - they need a perm and then that makes the hair very curly and it doesn't get wavy until it grows out and well, by then they cut it off.. Oh wait - that's me again...
