Subject: POSER PLUGINS! (sorta)

I don't know if anyone else has even realized this... It just occured to me. I was adding a few links to my "weblinks" in Poser4, when I decided to try and link the various utilities from within Poser, I hate navigating through the start menu everytime I need to start one (quite often when building figures). In "RuntimeWebLinks" there are 2 sub-folders by the names of "MetaCreations Web Links" & "Other Web Links". I created a new one and named it "Utilities" in order to get a sub-menu in Poser's "Help" menu. All of the .pzs files in the other folders are nothing more than simple text files with urls and .pzs as the extention. So what I did, was use the html equivelent of linking to an executable file on your harddrive (ex:"file:///D:Program FilesMetaCreationsPoser 4UtilitiesMorphManagermorphmanager.exe"), and guess what... I can now launch ALL of my utilities from within Poser, and SO CAN YOU! All you need to do is point to the file you want to run and name the .pzs. Start Poser4, go to the help menu and you should see a new sub-menu with an arrow pointing right, slide that menu open and you'll see whatever you named the .pzs. Click it... viola! -Rob

Wow, that is so cool. Thanks for sharing it. I'm off to try it right now.

You are VERY welcome. I've been waiting to see integration between poser and its utilities, I never thought I'd stumble on it. It may not be the Poser/Bryce plugin, but you can definitely launch Bryce from within Poser now.... :) -Rob

That is possibly the simplest and most awesome idea I've seen. Thank you for sharing with us Paul

Eric, Paul... glad to help. Not all great things have to be complex... :) Look at paper and pencil, very simple, extremely useful. -Rob

Um, yeah, but that's only when you use the right side of your brain, eh? ;)

Cool Idea. Just one thing though... If Poser is open it won't allow you to access the cr2's with Morph Manager or any other program. I always get the "File in Use" error. Am I wrong? -JH.

Jeff, I have never had a .cr2 do that to me. The only time I've ever gotten a "File in Use" error is when trying to delete a geometry .rsr while Poser is running. -Rob

I had always thought the links in Poser would be fantastic for launching scripts that required a browser (Java, Javascript, etc.) for cross platform plug-ins. (I have a simple height/weight calculator in my links to estimate my figure's weight when I have nothing better to do.) I also keep charts and such stored as gifs and html in my links for reference.

rbtwhiz, your comment about pencil and paper reminds me of the story that NASA spent millions (billions?) developing a pen that would write in zero gravity. When the US and Russian astronauts eventually met up in space, the first thing the US astronauts noticed was a pencil in the Russian Cosmonaut's pocket.
